Legal practitioner and former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini, has commended Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga for his composure and stellar performance during the vetting of Supreme Court nominee Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie for the position of Chief Justice.
His commendation follows a tense session of the Appointments Committee of Parliament, where Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin accused the Majority side of acting in bad faith during the vetting of Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, who was nominated by President John Dramani Mahama.
Tensions heightened when Mr. Ayariga objected to Mr. Afenyo-Markin’s description of the nominee as a “disputed nominee,” calling the remark inappropriate and politically motivated.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin, in turn, alleged that the Majority was attempting to stifle legitimate parliamentary scrutiny.
Speaking on Dwaboase on Power 97.9 FM and TV XYZ with host Piesie Okrah on Tuesday, August 11, 2025, Mr. Fuseini praised Mr. Ayariga’s handling of the session, describing his performance as exceptional.
“Mahama Ayariga’s attitude and performance during the vetting of Justice Baffoe-Bonnie were stellar. For the first time, he truly spoke the minds of Ghanaians,” Mr. Fuseini stated.
Clarifying misconceptions surrounding the nominee’s current role, Mr. Fuseini explained that Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie is constitutionally the Acting Chief Justice of Ghana, emphasizing that President Mahama has not yet appointed him as substantive Chief Justice.
He also took a swipe at President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, accusing him of undermining Ghana’s constitutional order and fostering instability in governance.
“Akufo-Addo has destabilised Ghana’s constitutional order and introduced indiscipline into the system,” he asserted.
Mr. Fuseini’s comments come amid growing public debate on judicial independence, constitutional interpretation, and governance under the current administration.
