Operation White Ember: NACOC strikes drug dens to save lives this Christmas

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has successfully conducted a series of intelligence-led raids across the Eastern and Greater Accra Regions, dismantling several drug dens as part of a festive-season crackdown dubbed “Operation White Ember.”

Officers struck drug hubs spanning Mamfe and Tutu in the Eastern Region, as well as areas from the Madina Redco Flats and Zongo Junction to the railway slums of Airport City.

On Boxing Day, the Commission conducted similar raids in Tema Community One and Teshie-Nungua, where dozens of arrests were made and drugs were seized with the assistance of NACOC K9 dogs.

Patrols were also conducted at various malls and beaches in the capital.

Beyond the arrests and yellow tape, NACOC emphasised the human cost of narcotics abuse.

The Commission believes the exhibits seized, ranging from ecstasy and methamphetamine to cannabis-laced alcohol, represent “thousands of lives saved from the brink of addiction” this December.

Whether on the beaches of the capital, in public spaces, or within urban slums, NACOC remains committed to ensuring the holiday season remains a time of joy rather than tragedy.

The operations resulted in the arrest of 72 suspects. Officers also engaged with community members who gathered to cheer the removal of drug peddlers from their neighbourhoods.

On-site public education was conducted, with officers briefing residents on the dangers of drug abuse and the impact of narcotics on community safety.

The Commission says it will continue these raids in the coming days and months to ensure a sustained environment of safety and security for all Ghanaians.
