The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, on Saturday, January 31, 2026, officially launched the SheaPark Resource Hub in Wa, Upper West Region.
During the event, he reaffirmed the government’s unwavering determination to reset the country’s development trajectory by investing in and unlocking regional strengths to ensure balanced development across the nation.
According to him, the Upper West SheaPark Resource Hub is built on a powerful idea: national development should grow from the regions outward, not just from the center alone.

“This initiative is part of a broader regional transformation agenda that aligns fully with our flagship national priorities in the reset agenda, the big push, and the 24-hour economy initiative. The Shea sector occupies a unique and strategic place in Ghana’s rural economy, particularly in the savannah regions,” he stated.
President Mahama emphasized that the flagship intervention is designed to revitalize the region’s economy through industrialization and value addition within the shea sector, positioning Upper West as a key player in Ghana’s agro-industrial transformation agenda.

“Across the Upper West Region and the northern parts of the country, Shea trees are not just economic assets; they are part of our cultural identity and ecological heritage. For generations, women have sustained households and communities through shea picking and processing,” he said.
The event was attended by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Honorable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin; His Royal Highness Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV, Paramount Chief of Wa; Members of Parliament; and other government officials.

On his part, the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Honorable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, who was a proponent of the initiative, described the occasion as a “royal honor and blessing.”
He expressed his profound gratitude to the organizers for inviting him to be part of what he called a historic and potentially impactful intervention.
He stated that the SheaPark Resource Hub represents a critical development pathway, not only for the Upper West Region but for Ghana as a whole.

He noted that the launch marks a significant milestone in efforts to revive the regional economy through sustainable, inclusive, and community-driven development.
The Speaker explained that the SheaPark Resource Hub aligns seamlessly with the government’s flagship programs, particularly the Big Push, the 24-Hour Economy, and the Accelerated Export Development agenda.
He said the initiative draws inspiration from the President’s vision of building a self-reliant, industrially competitive, and export-driven Ghanaian economy with integrated value chains and a globally competitive workforce.
