The National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP), Hajia Fati Forgor, has praised the impact of digital monitoring and the continued support of development partners in improving the delivery of school meals across the country.
Speaking during a monitoring visit to Kwabenya Atomic M/A Basic Schools 3 and 4 in the Greater Accra Region, Hajia Forgor said the introduction of the School Connect digital data collection system has significantly enhanced the programme’s monitoring and reporting processes.
She noted that the visit, undertaken with officials from the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), demonstrated that the digital initiative is already yielding positive results and should be expanded to schools that are yet to benefit from the technology.
According to her, the quality of meals being served under the programme continues to improve, with pupils receiving nutritious hot meals daily. While acknowledging that meal portions remain a challenge due to funding constraints, she commended caterers for maintaining high food quality, improving hygiene standards, dressing appropriately, and serving meals in food warmers under cleaner conditions.
Hajia Forgor also highlighted the need for additional support to provide bowls for pupils, explaining that many children, despite living in the capital, come from underprivileged households and are unable to afford basic eating utensils.
She stressed that although communities such as Kwabenya are often perceived as urban, many families still face economic hardship, making the School Feeding Programme an essential intervention for improving children’s nutrition and encouraging school attendance.
The National Coordinator expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana and its development partners, particularly the World Food Programme and KOICA, for their continuous support in strengthening the programme. She also acknowledged the contribution of the World Bank towards improving service delivery.
Hajia Forgor further commended the leadership of the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Chief Director Dr. Mariam Kapa, and the ministry’s technical team for their commitment to enhancing the programme.
She concluded by thanking the media for consistently supporting and highlighting the work of the Ghana School Feeding Programme.
