Television broadcaster Oheneba Boamah Bennie has fingered the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare in a smear campaign against COP Alex George Mensah (RTD).
Showing pictures of some Toyota Land cruisers on the Gumbe show on TV XYZ, the TV anchor revealed that IGP Dampare had clandestinely sponsored some persons to thwart the parliamentary bid of Mr Mensah who has declared to contest in the parliamentary primary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Bekwai in the Ashanti Region.
COP Mensah (RTD) is said to be the favorite of the party delegates following the exit of the MP of the area, Joseph Osei Owusu.
Despite being the favourite of the grassroots of the party, Oheneba said Dampare had sent some persons to the constituency last week to secretly meet with the opponents of COP Mensah (RTD) to support them to defeat the former police officer.
The said action, he said, stems from the revelations COP Alex Mensah made against Dampare during the Parliamentary Committee hearing that sought to investigate the IGP.
During the hearing which happened in the back of a leaked tape about the IGP’s style of managing the Police Service, Mr Mensah stated categorically that Dampare was the worse IGP he had seen in his over 3 decades of working in the service.
COP Alex Mensah, in his assertions at the committee did not mince words about Dampare’s leadership style and suggested he be changed.
In one his submissions, he said the morale of officers had dwindled because of Dampare’s “autocratic” leadership style.
Although the findings of the committee is not out yet, Oheneba reveals that the delegation Dampare allegedly sent to Bekwai had one of the IGP’s driver and one Nana Osei Afriyie.
“IGP Dampare, we know where the people you sent to Bekwai slept. One of the people is said to be a police officer in uniform who has been identified as your driver, ” Oheneba stated.
To him it is wrong for the IGP to meddle in politics, stressing that COP Mensah retired before venturing into partisan politics publicly.
” IGP is dangerous. What he is doing is bad and must be investigated by the NIB, ” he added.
