Vice President Calls for Greater Support for Women-Led Businesses

Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting women-led enterprises, describing them as critical drivers of economic growth and social development.

Speaking during a visit to the business premises of  Reroy Cables Limited owned by a Ghanaian Woman Madam Kate Quartey-Papafio, the Vice President praised the entrepreneur’s achievements in Ghana’s electrical and energy sector, an industry traditionally dominated by men.

She noted that the visit formed part of a broader government strategy to engage directly with businesses and citizens to ensure policies are responsive to real-life challenges and opportunities.

“We are interested in visiting all businesses led by women, however big or small,” she said. “Whether they are supporting themselves, their families, or creating jobs for others, they are making important economic contributions.”

The Vice President explained that government officials have been visiting ministries, markets, shops, and businesses across the country to better understand the realities on the ground and strengthen the link between policy formulation, implementation, and evaluation.

She emphasized that the government’s development agenda seeks to make life more meaningful for citizens and that direct engagement with entrepreneurs is essential to achieving that goal.

Commending Ms. Quartey-Papafio’s leadership, the Vice President described her as a trailblazer who has succeeded in a sector where women are often underrepresented.

Kate Quartey-Papafio is widely recognized as one of Ghana’s leading industrialists and a pioneer in cable manufacturing in West Africa.

The Vice President also encouraged the company to continue training and mentoring more women to enter technical and industrial fields.

“All we need to do is give women the opportunity, raise them up, and they will fly,” she stated.

Highlighting the importance of increasing female participation in sectors such as energy, agriculture, and manufacturing, she noted that empowering women in these industries is vital for national development.

Her remarks align with ongoing national conversations on expanding support for women-led enterprises and improving access to opportunities for female entrepreneurs.

The Vice President concluded by congratulating Ms. Quartey-Papafio, her family, employees, and management team for building a successful enterprise and expressed confidence that the company would continue to grow and contribute to Ghana’s economic transformation.
