James Agalga is new Majority Leader after Ayariga moves to Local Govt Ministry

The Member of Parliament for Builsa North, James Agalga, has been appointed the new Majority Leader in Parliament.

This follows the nomination of Mahama Ayariga’s nomination as Minister for Local  Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs-designate.

Mr Ayariga’s position requires him to step aside from his role as Majority Leader for Agalga, a former Deputy Minister for the Interior, lead the Majority side in Parliament.

Reshuffle And Reassignment 

President Mahama today, August 7,2026 reassigned Kenneth Gilbert Adjei from the Ministry of Works and Housing to the Ministry of Defence.

As part of the reshuffle, Ahmed Ibrahim, Member of Parliament for Banda, has been reassigned from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.

The President further nominated Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, MP, as Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation-designate.

The changes, according to the Presidency, have been submitted to Parliament through the Speaker in line with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution.

The nominations are subject to approval by Parliament.
