Next NDC gov’t to introduce Domestic Workers bill, Proper Right of spouses bill to end abuse – Mahama

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Mahama says the next NDC administration will among other policies to promote the welfare of women and families introduce some new bills, when passed by Parliament will bring respite to women and other domestic workers often abused by their pay masters.

 

According to John Mahama the introduction of the Proper Right of Spouses Bill and the Domestic Workers Bill, as he announced during the NDC Women’s Manifesto launch in Kumasi today, Monday 30th September, 2024 will help spouses who get divorced to stay economically viable.

 

The Domestic Workers Bill on the other hand will ensure proper care and prevent abuse of such people.

 

Speaking at the launch of the Women’s Manifesto the former President noted that the era where domestic workers are treated inhumanely must be a thing of the past

 

“We will strengthen the law when passed to ensure that people we employ to work for us in our homes are not abused. They are also human and deserves proper treatment” he said.

 

The NDC lunched the Women’s Manifesto with a call to action on specific concerns for women in a bid to have a direct policy implementation for the development for women.

 

Running Mate to John Mahama Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang who spent time to break down the expected impact of the Women Development Bank to be established, said the welfare of women must be a collective fight.

 

“women must be positioned economically, socially and their education must be a priority ” she emphasized
