Prof. Opoku – Agyemang supports GNAT cancer foundation with Ghc 50,000

The Vice Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, on Wednesday donated GHC50,000 to the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Cancer Foundation in Accra.

 

The support is in response to an ongoing campaign to raise funds to support the treatment of teachers diagnosed with cancer, their spouses or children.

 

According to GNAT Cancer Foundation the high cost of treatment of the disease, which is on the rise among teachers and their immediate relations is having a heavy toll on them and output to work; hence the need to set up a fund to cushion those affected.

Presenting a banker’s draft to the board of the Foundation at its offices in Accra, Professor Opoku Agyemang, who retired as an astute educationists and the first female Vice Chancelor of the University of Cape Coast, commended GNAT for the bold initiative.

“I want to appeal to the public that a fund like this has been set up. It doesn’t matter how big or small it is, and I am also appealing to all the unions to come on board. Regardless of how you grow up to become, regardless of the profession you follow, you would have gone through school, and I will urge all to show empathy to support this initiative”, she emphasized

The NDC Running Mate expressed hope that the fund will grow very big to become a national fund that can help help many people regardless of their profession.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also urged the leadership of the Foundation to create awareness on preventive care as part of its programme.

 

The fundraising committee chairman of GNAT Cancer Foundation, Christian Yaw Adinkra commended Prof. Opoku-Agyemang for the donation and urged others to emulate her kind gesture.

 

The Member of Parliament for Adentan, Mohammed Adamu Ramadan, also made a personal donation.
