President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa has sent a high powered delegation to President John Dramani Mahama following the xenophobic attacks in that country
So far two Ghanaians died in the attacks after several hundreds were evacuated.
President Mahama on Wednesday July 22,2026 told African Union Commission Chair, H.E Mahamoud Ali Youssouf that President Ramaphosa sent a delegation to him to this the matter adding that Ghana is open for dialogue on the disturbances to prevent a reoccurrence.
“ Yesterday, President Ramaphosa sent a delegation to me and I explained the reason why it is important for us to discuss it. Sometimes these things happen and we want to sweep them under the carpet but when we do that we do not cure what the problem is” he said.
President Mahama intimated that though Ghana hold not grudges with South Africa, the AU and the world must take interest in the development.
“So I do think that AU should take an interest in this issue. I told them that Ghana, we don’t harbor any malice against South Africa but we are raising it so it gives them the platform to also explain what they are doing to the world”. President Mahama retorted.
Meanwhile President Mahama has hinted further that plans are still underway to evacuate over Nine Hundred (900) more Ghanaians from South Africa “We operated three charter flights and we are operating another three because there’s still about 900 who have signed up to come back home” he said.
