BONO EAST: Fire Service Personnel assault security guards at Techiman Holy Family Hospital

Personnel of Ghana National Fire Service on Saturday evening allegedly launched an attack on the Techiman Holy Family Teaching Hospital in the Bono East Regional capital, leaving some security guards injured.

The assault followed a misunderstanding after about five fire officers who had gone to visit a female colleague on admission, were denied entry.
Reports say the security guards were insisting on protocols and had told them the time of their arrival, 9pm was past the Visiting Hours.

Confirming the unfortunate incident to Techiman based ASTA FM’s Nana Kwadwo Adu, Head of Security at the Holy Family Hospital, W.O. 1 Kwakuru Kingsley David said, not satisfied with the confrontation, the firefighters called for re-enforcement.

Another batch of Fire Officers who arrived in a Fire Thunder joined the fray resulting in chaos at the Hospital premises.

W.O. 1 Kwakuru Kingsley said during the clash, the Fire Officers forcefully took away their colleague, who was then on admission.

Management of the hospital has officially lodged a complaint to the Ghana Police Service, awaiting investigations and possible prosecution.

          Fire Service Reacts
When contacted, Bono East Regional Public Relations Officer for Ghana National Fire Service, A.D.O. 1 Victor Gyan the, confirmed the incident but blamed the Security Guards at the hospital for their unprofessional conduct.

He said bit for that, there wouldn’t have been a confrontation.

A.D.O. 1 Victor Gyan insisted the incident was not an attack on the hospital facility, but the operation was simply to relocate their colleague, for her own safety.

Damongo: 2 fire service officers in police custody for allegedly beating boy to death

Two officers of the West Gonja Municipal Ghana National Fire Service are in the custody of the Damongo Divisional Police Command for allegedly beating a 27-year-old man to death in Damongo.

The deceased, whose name has been given as Shirazu Nuhu, a resident of Damongo Zongo according to an eyewitness was accused of stealing a double-sized mattress by the officers.

The eyewitness, who gave his name as Tanko narrated to Bole-based Nkilgi FM that the deceased was chained and beaten for several hours by the officers with many people pleading with them to send the young man to the police station but the officers indicated that the police had rejected the deceased and that the only way they can retrieve the mattress is to beat him.

The younger brother of the deceased, Zakaria Mudasiru confirmed the sad passing on of his brother and described how the body of the deceased including his private parts was burnt through the use of a hot object suspected to be an electric iron.
Mudasiru indicated that the family has demanded justice for the deceased.

He also pleaded with politicians and traditional authorities to allow the law to bring the perpetrators to book because the beating of accused persons has become the order of the day in the Damongo Municipality.

The body of the deceased has since been laid to rest whilst investigations are ongoing with some suspected officers allegedly on the ran following the arrest of the two.
