NDC committed to empowering women financially – Prof. Opoku-Agyemang

Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the Running Mate for NDC flag bearer John Mahama has assured Ghanaian women of the party’s commitment to creating jobs for them when they win the 2024 elections in December.

Just like other social interventions the NDC implemented under the Mills-Mahama administration that supported women financially to create small and medium scale (SME) businesses, the former Education Minister believes there would be similar ones when Ghanaians vote against the NPP and give the NDC  the nod to steer the affairs of the country.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang who is on a tour of the Western Region to interact with Chiefs, women groups and opinion leaders has been specific about the policies that will better the lives of  Ghanaians and reduce the hardship the people grapple with on daily basis under the Akufo-Addo government.

One of the key policies which she said would benefit women immensely across the country is the Women’s Development Bank.

“I told the women about NDC presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama’s strong commitment to empowering women financially.

As part of this commitment, the next NDC government will establish Women’s Development Bank to offer loans to about one million women with flexible repayment terms,”she stated in a post on X.

Aside the good governance that will foster growth in all sectors of the economy, Naana Jane said unlike President Akufo-Addo and his vice, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who are experts in hoodwinking electorates, the NDC ticket is trustworthy and must be voted to power to fix the mess of the NPP government.

At a gathering in the Amenfi Central Constituency, she highlighted most of the job creation policies in the NDC manifesto, especially the 24-hour policy and urged the party fanatics to unite and explain the policies of the party to the people.

To her, women are good managers of finances and that the policies of the NDC will be a big boost to women in various self-employed business as well as those in the corporate world.

“If you mean it, do it now” – Naana Jane slams Bawumia over ‘plagiarized’ Women’s Bank promise

The Running Mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has taken on Vice President and the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for his campaign promise to establish a specialized SME Bank solely for women.

Speaking at the Mallam Market during her campaign tour of the Greater Accra region on Monday, 19th August, 2024 Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang dared Dr. Bawumia to put his money where his mouth is, by setting up the women’s bank now, since the NPP is in power.

Prof Opoku Agyeman’s reaction following what the NDC describes as daylight copying of its yet to be officially announced campaign promises which had been well explained since she was outdoored in April this year.

“If you can do it, do it now,” she told the charged crowd. “You are in government, and yet you are making promises.” she told the charged crowd.

She emphasized that the NDC, after engaging stakeholders had already announced plans to establish a Women’s Development Bank which will provide direct access to capital, by way of “soft loans to women without collateral.”

Professor Opoku-Agyemang accused Dr. Bawumia of making empty promises, citing the NPP government’s failure to deliver.

She assured that the NDC’s Women’s Development Bank would provide tangible support to women.

The NPP has included in its manifesto plans to establish an SME Bank to meet the special financing needs of small and medium businesses, which employ over 80% of Ghanaians.

However, Professor Opoku-Agyemang is convinced that the promise as announced by the NPP flag bearer is another vote-buying gimmick that must be ignored.
