MUSIGA to provide musicians at tourist sites to project GH music- Bessa Simons

PRESIDENT of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bessa Simons, has announced plans to provide musicians and cultural troupes at various tourist sites across the country in a bid to showcase Ghana’s rich music and cultural heritage to tourists.

Incorporating elements of music and dance which are integral aspects of the Ghanaian culture would amplify the country’s music presence on the global stage.

In a recent chat with Graphic Showbiz, Bessa Simons said there was the need to integrate music and dance into the tourists’ experience because they were only left to explore the physical beauty of tourist sites, while they overlooked music and dance traditions.

“Under the initiative, MUSIGA will liaise with the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) to provide musicians and cultural troupes to specific regions visited by tourists.

“Whether visitors are in the Central Region enjoying Asafo music or in the Northern Region experiencing traditional instruments, MUSIGA will offer a comprehensive representation of Ghana’s music landscape”, he said.

He explained that the initiative would involve a collaboration between the authorities overseeing the various tourist sites and local musicians in the regions. Together, they would devise a comprehensive plan for integrating music and dance performances into the tourist experience.

“The process entails careful consideration of factors such as the frequency of tourist influx to determine the appropriate schedule for performances. Some sites may opt for weekly, fortnightly, or monthly shows, depending on negotiations and agreements reached with the musicians involved.

“You see, you cannot leave music out when it comes to tourism, everywhere you go, music plays a special role. And it is one of the things that people take away with them because the music can still let them remember Ghana”, he added.

In addition to enhancing the tourism experience, Bessa Simons told Graphic Showbiz MUSIGA was also gearing up to host a Ghana Music Festival every December.

Okudzeto orders 40-foot container of advanced medical equipment for hospital project

After my speech at the SOS breakfast event, I proceeded to the SOS headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky to order a 40-foot-shipping-container of wide-ranging medical equipment needed to operationalize the new hospital project being constructed by Citi FM in my beloved Mepe.

The heavily subsidized medical equipment include anaesthesia machines, x-ray machines, ventilators, patient monitors, defibrillators, electronic blood pressure apparatus, nebulizer machines, autoclaves, suction machines, radiant warmers, incubators, obstetric delivery sets, electronic wheelchairs, adjustable delivery beds, diagnostic sets, episiotomy sets, ultrasound machines, surgical instruments etc.

I am thankful to my Senior Public Health Advisor, Dr. Momodou Cham and North Tongu District Health Director, Mr. Michael Zigah for the invaluable professional guidance in helping me select the medical equipment required.

The full complement of medical equipment as ordered will be shipped to Ghana in the next few days.

Citi FM and their partners/listeners did a great job by raising funds during the floods to construct a hospital building and nursing bungalows in Mepe — I am determined to show appreciation to you all by ensuring that I secure and install the much needed medical equipment to not only complete the laudable Citi FM initiative but also maximize the health benefits.

I am eternally grateful to SOS and their donors for this remarkable partnership with my office.

Mahama slams government for abandoning Yendi Water Supply project

2024 Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama has expressed disappointment that eight years on, government has not been able to complete the Yendi Water Supply project.

The former President who was speaking during a courtesy call on the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II, as part of his tour of the Northern region, expressed disappointment that, nothing much has changed after the preparatory works handed over to the Nana Akufo Addo led government.

“I am disappointed that in spite of all the works we did government abandoned the Yendi Water supply project. 8yrs on there is still no water in Yendi” – he emphasized.

He assured that the next NDC government, which completed the design for the expansion of the Yendi water supply system, will work hard to fix the perineal crisis to provide enough water for the Yendi Municipality and the surrounding towns.
” I want to assure that when we come, the Yendi Water supply system will be my priority and we will ensure that you will not be thirsty again” he told the Yaa Naa.

The former President, also promised to build a referral hospital at Yendi, to help bridge the gap in health care access within the Dagbon enclave.
It will be recalled that 29th July 2020, barely four months to the elections, President Nana Akufo Addo led a funfair to cut sod for the water project.
According to him then, a $30 million facility from the India Exim Bank, secured was to supply fifteen thousand (15,000) cubic meters of water daily to the people of Yendi, Ghani (Ngani), Sambu, Adobo, Sokoli, Nakpachei, Gbungbalaga and Kuga when completed.

“Yaa-Na Mahama Abukari II, when I told you that ‘great days lie ahead of Dagbon’, this is what I meant, as this Project signals the beginning of infrastructural development for Yendi. And, as you know by now, when Akufo-Addo makes a promise, he keeps it.” – he promised.
Almost four years on, the project has virtually been abandoned.

Tension is mounting at Gomoa Fetteh Kakraba, suburb of Gomoa East District in the Central region following assault by land guards terrorizing residents and developers in the area. .

According to reports, they have become so emboldened that, Chiefs in the area have been chased away after they forcibly halted an ongoing clinic project.

TV XYZ’s Central regional correspondent, Alex Donkoh who visited the area reports that, the Odikro and Omankrado of Fetteh Kakraba had demarcated a parcel of land for the construction of the health post by the District Assembly. Though the District Chief Executive is fully aware and backs the initiative, the land guards seem fearless and are bent on stopping the project.

According to witnesses, a group of land guards fully armed with guns stormed the site, threatening mayhem to scare workers and succeeded in filling the foundation dug for the project, with bulldozer.
Nana Kudum Manu recounting his predicament to journalists alleged that, he was in his Palace when a distress call from the youth came in, alerting him about the assault by the land guards.

He told the press gathered that as he proceeded to the scene together with the Odikro of Fetteh Kakraba, the suspects called their bluff threatening to deal with anyone who dares them.

Nana Kudum Manu said to prevent bloodshed, they lodged a complaint at the Breku Police station.
The suspects, sensing danger, absconded before the Police contingent arrived at the scene.

The Odikro and Omankrado of Fetteh Kakraba however said they surfaced after the Police left, raising eyebrows.

He has since made a passionate appeal to the Inspector General of Police, COP Dr George Akuffo Dampare, the Central East Regional Commander to intervene and clampdown on land guards in the area.

Meanwhile, Queen mother of Fetteh Kakraba, Nana Abena Adobi who has been accused of masterminding the attack has also been speaking.
Nana Abena Adobi claims she is preparing the land for traders who will be affected by the expansion of Kasoa-Winneba highway, when work begins.
