Transport fares remain unchanged despite fuel price surge – Commercial Transport Operators.

The Commercial Transport Operators have suspended their proposed 30 per cent increase in transport fares despite the recent surge in fuel prices, following consultations and engagements with the government.

The Chairman of the Commercial Transport Operators, Asonaba Wiredu, said operators have decided to maintain the current fares and wait until the next pricing window before considering any possible adjustment.

Speaking on the afternoon political programme Inside Politics on Power 97.9 FM on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, with host NK Obrempong, Mr Wiredu explained that the group initially proposed a 30 per cent increase in transport fares due to rising operational costs, but the decision was suspended after engagements with the government.

“Despite the recent surge in fuel prices, we have not increased transport fares pending the next pricing window,” Asonaba Wiredu stated.

He noted that the decision was taken to prevent passengers from being burdened with immediate fare increases while awaiting the outcome of the next review window.

Mr Wiredu also urged passengers to report any driver who charges unapproved transport fares to the police, insisting that no individual has the authority to implement an unauthorised increase.

“Passengers should report any driver charging unapproved transport fares to the police,” he said.

The Chairman further disclosed that a taskforce has been deployed across transport stations to monitor compliance and apprehend drivers who violate the directive.

“We have deployed a taskforce to monitor and apprehend drivers who are charging unapproved transport fares,” Asonaba Wiredu added.
