Biden ends bid for second term in White House as he drops out of his 2024 rematch with Trump

President Biden announced Sunday that he will suspend his 2024 re-election campaign amid mounting pressure from within the Democratic Party for the president to end his 2024 bid after a disastrous debate performance last month.

The unprecedented announcement came as an increasing number of Democrat lawmakers had begun to publicly call for Biden to step aside and the party’s leadership reportedly was engaged in efforts to convince Biden, 81, he could not win in November’s general election against former President Trump, the 2024 GOP nominee who Biden defeated four years ago to win the White House.

And Biden quickly offered his “full support and endorsement” for Vice President Kamala Harris to take over as the party’s presidential nominee.

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president,” Biden wrote in a public letter. “While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interests of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term.”

Biden said he will formally address the nation later this week about his decision.

“For now, let me express my deepest gratitude to all those who have worked so hard to see me reelected,” Biden wrote. “I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all this work. And let me express my heartfelt appreciation to the American people for the faith and trust you have placed in me.”

Biden added: “I believe today what I always have: that there is nothing America can’t do – when we do it together. We just have to remember we are the United States of America.”

In a social media post, Biden backed Harris to take over as the party’s standard-bearer.

“My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this,” Biden wrote.

Norway marathon : How Ghana’s Paralympics team Vanished upon arrival in Norway.

Ghana’s Paralympic team has reportedly fled to other Schengen countries after arriving in Norway for preparations ahead of the Fjordkraft in Bergen city marathon games in Oslo.

The 11 Member squad failed to attend a scheduled competition in April 27th, 2024, which led to significant concerns about their locations.

The team supposed to have arrived in Norway on April 25th, 2024, but failed to register their names for the competition and thus were not in attendance for the event for two days after their arrival.

Nana Antwi, one of the team members, was detained by Norwegian authorities at the end of April after attempting to travel to Sweden from Norway.

The situation took a tragic turn when the team’s coach, George Gyamfi Gyasi, collapsed and was hospitalised at Oslo University Hospital on 28th April 2024. Sadly, he kicked the backet on 17 May 2024 and the cause of his death is not reveal yet .

Following these events, the Norwegian embassy in Accra has issued warning to other Schengen nations and diplomatic missions in Accra, urging them to assist in locating and apprehending the team members, reports revealed .

Meanwhile the Paralympic President of Ghana Mr Sampson Deen has denied the allegation and discloses that the supposed para team arrived in Oslo after his signature was forged for visas to Norway and absconded afterward.

‘He said that, the Ghana Olympic team have not sent anybody, have not sent anyone, or have not sent any athlete, have not written any letter, and we have never applied for a visa at the Norwegian Embassy.

The Ghana Paralympic committee have never sent any human, any official, been a Ghanaian to the Norwaygian Embassy for even to get the visa and travel to Norway.

We have no intention trying to attempt or participate in an event which is an olympic or Paralympic qualifier in Norway or Oslo.

Let me say that upon our checks, upon receiving this document from the ministry of youth and sports, we engaged and our investigation finds that the letter was written and Forged my signature with my letter head to secure the visa .

All the three (3 ) people who involved in this fraudulent scandal namely, Mr Theodore Mawuli Viwotor, Mr yaw Ernest Ayisi, and Ernestay Foundation, are suspended indefinitely from the Ghana Olympic committee and handed the case to the Ghana police service for further actions to be taken.’

Ghana Paralympic disassociate itself from this matter,
Mr Sampson Deen said.

XYZ sports desk checks shows that there’s a division among the Paralympic committee leadership and Para sports team

The team in Norway is a FAKE Ghana Para team. The names being mentioned as leaders are past executives of the committee.

There are about five different teams calling themselves Ghana Para Team despite not recognized by authorities .

When the original Ghana Amputee Team Football was preparing for the just ended Amputee AFCON in Egypt, there was also another team training for that same tournament.

It had to take a court order to stop the fake team from enplaning to Egypt ahead of the official team.

This is clear example to show that Ghana disable sports lack attention and direction.

Banking sector clean-up was a ‘knee-jerk’ reaction by Akufo-Addo’s govt – Mahama

Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has criticised the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government’s handling of the banking sector clean-up, describing it as a ‘knee-jerk’ reaction.

He made this statement during a meeting with the management of Groupe Nduom, who presented a petition to him to restore the defunct Groupe Nduom (GN) Bank licence.

Mr. Mahama, speaking after receiving the petition promised to give a fair hearing to the victims of the operation when elected.

He acknowledged that every country’s banking and financial sector is part of its national security architecture, emphasising that the clean-up could have been done reasonably without affecting any party.

In a Facebook post, Mr. Mahama highlighted the impact of the bank closures on individuals and communities, underscoring his commitment to restoring them when elected.

He stated that the government’s approach was hasty and lacking in necessary considerations for the social impact.

Mr. Mahama has pledged to restore the licences of Indigenous banks, including GN Bank, and ensure they have a fair chance to thrive again.

He underscored the significance of supporting Indigenous businesses in the financial sector and ensuring they succeed.

“I believe that the action of this government was a knee-jerk reaction to a situation that should have been faced with reasonableness, level head, and a calm disposition.

“It’s not the first time we have done clean-up. We dealt with struggling banks, and the banks came out stronger than before. I think we are speaking on the same wave; I know some legal issues are outstanding.”

“But is something that we would be looking at before we come into office, and if by the votes of Ghanaian people and by the Grace of God we do come into office, you can expect that you will all get a sympathetic hearing, in trying to unravel what has unfortunately happened.”

Major global IT outage hits Microsoft, media, banks, and airlines leading to grounded flights

A major IT outage brought banks, media outlets, and airlines to a halt on Thursday through to Friday, causing chaos at airport check-in, cancelled flights, and disrupted services at hospitals, shops and businesses worldwide.

Reports of outages have been streaming in from around the globe, with broadcaster Sky News in the UK forced off the air for hours on Friday morning.

The outage has also impacted global customers of Microsoft’s Azure and Office365 services, which first reported being hit about 18.00 ET on Thursday, or midnight CET on Friday.

In a post on X, the Big Tech giant said it was “investigating an issue impacting users ability to access various Microsoft 365 apps and services”.

“We still expect that users will continue to see gradual relief as we continue to mitigate the issue,” it added.

Airlines such as Qantas in Australia and at least two low-cost carriers in the US – Frontier and Sun Country Airlines – have been forced to ground flights.

In Europe, users of Ryanair’s app and website also complained about not being able to check in for their flights on Friday morning, with a surge of reports noted on the outage tracking website Downdetector.com.

In a post on X, the airline confirmed it was “experiencing disruption” due to a “globe 3rd party IT outage”.

Carriers such as KLM have also informed customers to expect delays or cancelled flights as handling services was “impossible,” according to the Dutch airline.

Several European airports have reported IT issues, including Berlin Brandenberg Airport which has told customers to expect delays at check-in. At Edinburgh Airport in the UK, a computer error caused departure boards to freeze.

Amsterdam Schiphol has also reported issues with flights affected, as did airports in New Zealand, Japan, and India.

Switzerland’s largest airport, Zurich is currently stopping aircraft from landing.

In the UK, supermarkets like Aldi, Morrison’s, and Waitrose reported experiencing issues accepting card payments.

Hospitals, pharmacies, and doctors’ surgeries have also been hit, reporting difficulties retrieving medical records, with reports of two German hospitals in Luebeck and Kiel cancelling non-urgent surgeries.

According to initial reports, the IT outage has been blamed on an antivirus software update at global security firm, Crowdstrike that has gone awry.

Devices, such as computers and phones, have become “bricked,” meaning that they’re not able to function as they should due to corrupted software.

On Reddit, community users of the Crowdstrike subreddit (r/crowdstrike) have shared what is reported to be an advisory from the company issued to customers only that suggests the cause is its Falcon Sensor.

In the communiqué, the company says it is aware that customers are experiencing repeated BSODs (Blue Screen of Death) and are unable to reboot their devices.

“CrowdStrike is aware of reports of crashes on Windows hosts related to the Falcon Sensor. Symptoms include hosts experiencing a bugcheck\blue screen error related to the Falcon Sensor,” it states.

Euronews Next has contacted Crowdstrike directly to confirm.

Regarding Friday’s outage, Lauren Wills-Dixon, a data privacy expert at UK-based law firm Gordons, told Euronews Next: “We don’t yet know the cause of these outages, but it appears this is linked to Microsoft and Crowdstrike which would explain disruption across sectors and globally.

“Outages can be created by several causes and Microsoft has named a ‘technical issue’ rather than a cyber incident,” she added.

“We’ll likely find out more as the hours progress, but this shows just how reliant we are on certain tech, how much trust organisations put in them and their security practices, and also the chaos that downtime can cause”.

Ghana music has become monotonous — Big Joe Frazier

Ghanaian artist Big Joe Frazier has expressed his concerns about the current state of music, describing it as monotonous. According to Big Joe Frazier, contemporary artists often mimic popular styles instead of cultivating their own unique approaches.

“If an artist sees that their colleague is succeeding with Azonto, they will abandon their own style and follow the same path,” he explained. He told Afia Owusu on XZONE on TV XYZ that music played on radio stations tends to have a uniform rhythm, which can make it tedious to listen to.

However, due to this uniformity, artists can quickly lose relevance if the genre they follow falls out of favor.

I have fifty more years to go, I haven’t worked with Appietus yet – Stonebwoy on career

Dancehall musician, Stonebwoy, has reflected on his significant achievements in the music industry while expressing a continued ambition for the future.

During the 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards Industry Mixer on Saturday, July 13, 2024, Stonebwoy highlighted his ongoing journey in music, emphasising that despite his accomplishments, he still has fifty more years ahead to fulfill his aspirations.

“I am yet to work with Appietus in my career, so I have fifty more years to go. Nothing has happened yet,” he retorted.

“If I am here to work with Appietus, you can just imagine,” he remarked, acknowledging the contributions of music producers such as Fredyma, Mix Master Garzy, and Appietus,” he added.

The event, organized by Charterhouse Ghana, gathered influential executives and stakeholders from Ghana’s creative economy, including record producers, representatives from copyright and music rights organizations, musicians, and creative entrepreneurs.

Stonebwoy received several official TGMA plaques at the ceremony following his outstanding performance.

Accepting the awards, Stonebwoy expressed gratitude to the industry for their support of the Ghana Music Awards, stating, “This is the only one we have. For me, if I have to work 100 times harder and win what is deserved 100 times, I think it’s the right way for Ghana music.”

Many artiste are just hyped on social media but lack real talent — Big Joe Frazier

Veteran artist Big Joe Frazier has revealed that many artists nowadays are hyped on social media but lack real talent.

Speaking to Afia Owusu on Xzone on TV XYZ, the celebrated rapper, social media has positively impacted music, making it easier for new artists compared to his time.

Comparing his era to the present, he noted, “Back then, it was tough. People didn’t understand the Twi dialect, and there was little investment in music. Now, investors are more willing to fund music projects.” However, he highlighted that not every artist today achieves long-term success; many experience fleeting popularity due to social media influence.

“Some artists succeed, while others struggle,” he commented. “This disparity is normal and exists everywhere, even in our days. In our time, songs underwent rigorous processes before release, ensuring quality and potential success. Today, social media simplifies things; even untalented artists can gain popularity by posting songs from their rooms without deep musical knowledge.”

Movement for Change won’t accept results of fraud elections – Solomon Owusu tells EC

The Movement for Change has categorically stated that it will not accept the outcome of the December 7 election if there’s evidence that it was rigged.

This follows the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa urging political parties to accept the outcome of the 2024 general elections.

During the presentation of the Democracy Cup to the EC by the leadership of Parliament in Accra on Wednesday, the Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa assured of transparent elections and urged political leaders to accept the outcome of the polls.

“Just like the football match we serve as the midwives that birth the elections, we are the referees that conduct, that lay the elections and the processes that lead to the election day itself.

“So as referees we are committed to ensuring that our activities from now in the lead up to the election and all our electoral processes are transparent, they are open, they are fair, and they involve the collaboration of our key stakeholders, that is, the political parties and the citizenry.”

“We commit to ensuring transparency in all aspects of our work…We will commit to maintaining and showing that level of transparency across all aspects of our work.

“So, we also want to entreat and call upon the contestants of the election to accept the outcomes of the election. Surely there will be a winner and surely there will be losers,” she stated.

But commenting further on the issue in an interview on Ghana Kasa show on Kasapa 102.5FM/Agoo TV Thursday, a leading member of the Movement for Change, Solomon Owusu stated that it doesn’t lie in the mouth of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission to tell political parties to accept election results.

“If you organize a free, fair and transparent election who will have the cause to dispute the results. We know that in every election it is either you win or lose. But we will never accept any outcome of an election when it is clear that the Electoral Commission colluded with others to rig it in favour of a particular political party. As for that one, we will never accept that result. If it is the EC’s intention to rig the election that it why they and President Akufo-Addo are preparing the minds of Ghanaians, then they must be very careful.”

He added: “The EC has only one mandate, organize a free, fair and transparent election. If you conduct a bogus election and tell us to accept the outcome of the election we’ll will resist with vehemence and all the power we can marshal”
