Mahama will soon reveal the rot NPP Gov’t left behind – Shamima Muslim

Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Shamima Muslim has alleged that the previous government misled Ghanaians about the real state of the economy.

According to Muslim, President Mahama has uncovered significant corruption and mismanagement in the system, inherited from the previous NPP government led by Nana Akufo-Addo.

Speaking on Dwaboase on TV XYZ, Madam Muslim indicated that the alleged corruption and wastage under the Akufo-Addo administration are said to have prevented the Mahama government from increasing base pay for public sector workers by more than 10%.

“Had it not been the wanton corruption and wastage by the Akufo-Addo government , the Mahama administration could have increased the base pay for public sector workers by 100%,” she noted.

This comes after the government and organised labour signed an agreement Thursday, 20th February 2025 to increase the base pay for public sector workers by 10%.

Speaking at the National Tripartite Committee meeting at the Ministry of Labour, Jobs, and Employment, where the government announced a 10% increase in base pay for public sector workers, President John Mahama accused the previous government of mishandling the country’s affairs, claiming it managed the economy criminally.

He said: “We all knew the economy was in crisis, but some of the things I am uncovering myself have been a criminal mishandling of our economy. Ghana is now a crime scene,” he said.

“How can a government be so reckless? I cannot understand,” he added.

But Muslim on Friday morning promised that the specifics of the financial sector’s problems caused by the NPP government will be revealed in the coming days, assuring Ghanaians that despite the mess, President Mahama will fix the economy.

President Mahama is expected to talk about the  state of the economy when he present to Parliament, the State of the Nation Address (SoNA).
