The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Commissioner of Police (COP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, has been elected to the newly established Interpol Africa Committee, becoming the first Ghanaian to serve on the body.
Her election, announced by the Ghana Police Service on Sunday, August 31, secures her a four-year term.
COP Donkor is also the only woman on the committee, a milestone the Service described as a significant step for gender representation in policing across Africa.
The Police Service said her election reflects her years of dedicated service and strong leadership at the CID.
The Interpol Africa Committee is tasked with strengthening police cooperation across the continent, setting crime-fighting priorities, advising the African Regional Conference, and recommending action on pressing security challenges.
Alongside Ghana, Egypt, Kenya, and South Africa will serve four-year terms, while Botswana, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, and Sudan secured two-year terms.
The Police Service noted that COP Donkor’s presence on the committee is both a personal achievement and an opportunity for Africa to benefit from her expertise in law enforcement over the next four years.
