In a bid to enhance teaching and learning in the Biakoye District, the Member of Parliament, Hon. Jean-Marie Formadi (Lady JM), has launched a Teachers’ Excellence Awards initiative to honour educators who have made outstanding contributions to quality education in the area.
The awards, which include freezers, 32-inch televisions, and washing machines, are designed to motivate teachers, many of whom work under challenging conditions in remote communities with limited access to water, electricity, and mobile network connectivity.
Speaking to XYZ News and Ibrahim Nsor, Hon. Formadi said the initiative was inspired by President John Dramani Mahama’s vision to improve educational quality nationwide.

She noted that the Biakoye District suffered developmental setbacks during the eight years under the previous NPP administration, including stalled school infrastructure, water projects, and electrification efforts.
To address these gaps, she revealed that new classroom blocks and clinics are currently under construction to accelerate development and support quality learning.
The District Chief Executive for Biakoye, Hon. Eric Kwaku Opong, echoed these concerns, stating that the lack of new classroom infrastructure in previous years left many pupils learning in deplorable conditions.

He added that under his first term in office, and in collaboration with the MP, a 3-unit classroom block for both primary and JHS levels has been initiated to improve teaching and learning.
The Biakoye District Director of Education, Mr. David Kwame Seddoh, commended the MP for the awards scheme, describing it as a timely intervention to motivate teachers.
He praised all educators in the district, whether awarded or not, calling them the true heroes of Biakoye’s educational progress.
