The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) have served notice to commence a nationwide strike effective Monday, November 4, 2024, as a result of the long delay in the completion of a salary structure for the staff of the Civil Service and the Local Government Service.
The proposed new salary structure has already been approved by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) but it is yet to be implemented by the Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations.
According to the Association, the salary structure has been on hold for over 15 months since a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was reached.
CLOGSAG in a statement explained that, “From the foregoing, it is evident that the 31st October 2024 deadline for finalization of a salary structure for the Civil Service and the Local Government Service would not be met.”
“In the light of the above CLOGSAG would have no option than to declare a nationwide strike from Monday 4th November, 2024,” the statement added.
As such, CLOGSAG said it has waited long enough and has no other option than to proceed on strike if the government fails to implement the new structure by the end of the month.
This development follows an earlier notice CLOGSAG served to embark on an industrial action in July this year.
