Ghana – UK sign growth partnership agreement; announces £101 million UK-supported Takoradi Floating Dock Project.

Ghana and the United Kingdon have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to improve healthcare, to create jobs and empower the youth as well as enhance technology innovations.

The agreement was signed during the Ghana-UK investment Summit in London on Monday, June 1, 2026.

President John Mahama after the signing said on Instagram “at the Ghana-UK Investment Summit in London, Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy and I witnessed the signing of the UK-Ghana Growth Partnership, which will help transform our economy and create thousands of opportunities for our people” he said.

According to the President, the MoU targets four areas of national development and growth.

“It targets four priority areas: attracting private investment, enabling easier trade for Ghanaian businesses, driving industrial growth, and delivering world-class education’’ he indicated.

He has since outlined the specific areas of the investment in the Ghanaian economy including; 430 new jobs in Takoradi through the construction of the first commercial-scale ship repair and drydock facility in the Gulf of Guinea, empower the youth with new AI strategies and forge innovative science partnerships, improve healthcare by training Ghana’s clinical engineers with specialist skills and restore forests and create jobs in the Oti Region by protecting the environment.

The President was particularly elated following the announcement of the £101 million UK-supported project of the Takoradi Floating Dock Project.

“ I particularly welcome the announcement of the Takoradi Floating Dock Project, a £101 million UK-supported project, because it will pioneer the use of local pension funds for infrastructure” adding that “this is how Ghana becomes sustainable and self-reliant”.
