The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has reported foreign exchange earnings of US$1.871 billion from artisanal and small-scale gold trading in September 2026, surpassing its monthly target of US$1.4 billion.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Board said US$701.3 million was sold to authorised commercial banks to help stabilise the foreign exchange market, slightly above the US$700 million target. Another US$1.170 billion was transferred to the Bank of Ghana to support the build-up of national reserves, significantly exceeding the US$700 million allocation set for the central bank.
The September performance represents a notable increase from the US$1.315 billion generated in August.
For October, GoldBod is targeting US$1.5 billion in foreign exchange. Under the plan, US$1 billion will be made available to commercial banks, while up to US$500 million will go to the Bank of Ghana under the Ghana Accelerated National Reserves Accumulation Programme (GANRAP).
The October transactions will be carried out through GoldBod’s new Spot FX Sales/Intermediation Framework, aimed at improving transparency, fairness and regulatory compliance. The Board will take full responsibility for foreign exchange intermediation starting next month.
