Mahama cautions EC again over ‘questionable’ voter register

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Mahama has described the refusal of the Electoral Commission (EC) to open its books for forensic audit as a recipe for chaos.

According to John Mahama, the EC cannot claim to be transparent yet reject calls for transparency after several anomalies found in the provisional voter register during the recent exhibition.

For him, the Commissioners of the EC do not have any option than to guarantee that the December general elections will be free and fair.

Addressing a mini rally at Chiraa in the Sunyani West Constituency of the Bono region, Mr. Mahama cautioned that the happenings of 2020 should not be allowed to reoccur because Ghanaians have learned a bitter lesson.

“If people go to the polling station and they don’t find their names, it will bring chaos. That is why we are calling for an audit of the register to calm all parties involved” he said.

“We do not want a repeat of what happened in 2020 where those arrested for printing ballot papers were arrested and nothing was done to them” he added

Mr. Mahama warned that the NDC should not be blamed for any future happenings since the voices of conscience continue to remain silent

“Ghanaians are wide awake and will do anything possible to protect their votes. I can’t guarantee there will be peace the cardinal sins of 2020 is repeated in this election. We are a peaceful political party that will not cheat anyone and we expect same” he warned.
