President Mahama breaks ground for Tema Integrated Industrial park .

President John Dramani Mahama has held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Tema Industrial Park

The Tema Industrial park is a multi agency project aimed at making the enclave the preferred destination for industrial production in the sub region.

The Tema Integrated Industrial Park (TIIP) is a 100-to-120 hectare industrial enclave currently under development in the Tema Heavy Industrial Area. Aimed at transforming Ghana into a regional manufacturing hub, the park is a strategic joint venture designed to boost local value addition, processing, and job creation.

The park is being developed by a newly incorporated entity called Tema Integrated Industrial Parks Company Limited (TIIPco).

A partnership between TDC Ghana Ltd, the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC), and ARISE Integrated Industrial Platforms (ARISE IIP).

ARISE brings its pan-African expertise to lead technical services, infrastructure design, construction, and operations.

The site is strategically located adjacent to the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO) smelter, offering ideal proximity to ports and established industrial infrastructure.

Speaking at the sod cutting ceremony, President John Mahama reiterated Ghana’s choice for industrialization and value addition.

“Industrialization is no longer an option. It is an economic necessity. Countries that have transformed their economies have done so through manufacturing, innovation, industrial clusters and integration into global value chains. That is the path Ghana has chosen” he said .

He further added that the overarching objective is to make Ghana the preferred destination for industrial production in West Africa.

“Our industrial strategy goes beyond the construction of factories.  We are creating complete industrial ecosystems where infrastructure, energy, technology, logistics, finance and skills development reinforce one another. Our objective is simple: to make Ghana the most competitive destination for industrial production in West Africa” President Mahama emphasized

You will call that in June this year, GIADEC signed a landmark €300 million (approximately $341.7 million) agreement with the Italian industrial firm Danieli to build an aluminum foil rolling mill and a Centre of Excellence inside the park.

The facility will process local raw materials into 40,000 to 45,000 metric tons of aluminum foil annually for pharmaceutical, packaging, and industrial markets.

The broader park is projected to generate over 4,000 direct jobs, stimulating both upstream and downstream industrial clusters in the Tema enclave.

By producing finished and semi-finished goods locally, the initiative aligns with the government’s industrialization agenda to reduce reliance on raw material exports and increase foreign exchange earnings.
