Mahama writes: ghana will be self-sufficient & export-oriented under 24hr economy

My objective is to create a 24-hour economy in Ghana by enabling businesses to operate in three shifts. This will help Ghana become self-sufficient and focus on export-oriented growth.

To achieve this goal, the government and private sector will collaborate. The 24-hour economy is designed to create new employment opportunities, particularly for young people, address unemployment, and enhance living standards in Ghana.

My government will enact new laws to support businesses operating 24/7, including labour laws and tax incentives. To assist companies, there will be favourable tax policies, stimulus packages and financial assistance available for specific industries including agro-processing and manufacturing.

Buying local products and services will be government’s top priority, and measures will be implemented to ensure the smooth operation of the 24-hour economy.

Security, sanitation, cleaning, and environmental protection will be critical components of the 24-hour economy. Financial services at the ports will be operational 24/7, reducing delays and congestion.

The initiative aims to benefit various sectors, create jobs, improve living standards, increase productivity, and provide convenience for citizens.

24 hour economy is not well communicated; Ghanaians do not understand – Cwesi Oteng

Gospel musician Cwesi Oteng has cautioned the NDC, pointing out that their 24-hour economy policy is poorly communicated, resulting in a lack of understanding among Ghanaians.

“The 24-hour economy is a great idea, and to tell you the truth, Ghanaians are willing to understand what the 24-hour economy policy is,” he expressed during an interview on Xzone on TV XYZ with Afia Coke.

According to the gospel musician, the NDC needs to emphasize a flagship idea within the 24-hour economy concept and concentrate their message on that, advising them to refrain from excessive talking.

While acknowledging the positive aspect of the 24-hour economy policy, he admitted to hearing about it but not knowing the specifics. “Of course, they are talking, but I think that when it comes to politics, don’t say too many things. Pick a flagship idea from your many concepts and champion that idea rather than talking excessively. I only hear 24-hour economy; I don’t hear the specifics,” he added.

Cwesi Oteng advises that anyone who supports the NDC should grasp the essence of his statements and refrain from excessive talking.

Drawing a parallel between the 24-hour economy policy and Free SHS, the celebrated gospel musician disclosed that the NPP, in contrast to the NDC, didn’t engage in extensive discourse but instead focused on pushing the Free SHS agenda, which gained widespread attention.

“Any person who supports the NDC should grasp the essence of what I’m saying instead of talking excessively. The NPP wasn’t talking excessively; they picked Free SHS, and it was everywhere,” he concluded.

Ashanti NDC to stage 24-hour economy mega walk January 24

The Ashanti Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has scheduled next Wednesday, January 24, 2024, a procession through the Central Business District of Kumasi to sensitize the public on the expected impact of the 24-hour economy proposal promised by John Dramani Mahama if he wins the next general elections.

The peaceful walk intended to target people within the Central Business District of Kumasi, is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

Ashanti Regional Organizer of the party, Isham Yaw Alhassan, who announced this at a press briefing, said the exercise will start from the Aboabo Post office, through Bantama High Street, KATH Roundabout, Kejetia Roundabout, Adum Pampaso, Prisons Roundabout, Aseda House Street, Asafo Interchange, Labour Roundabout and end at the Jubilee Park, where series of speeches shall be made to bring clarity to what the policy proposal entails.
According to Isham Alhassan, it has become necessary for the party to scale up activities to defuse desperate attempts by the governing New Patriotic Party to mislead the people in its stronghold about the potential for job creation, economic growth and improvement in security.

He noted that though there is no doubt what even the Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress, Dr Yaw Baah describes as a ‘game changer’ but because of the misinformation being spread by the NPP, which has already disappointed its support base, the NDC is compelled to reach out to the masses to explain for the buy in and support for NDC’s 2024 flagbearer.

The NDC Ashanti regional organizer, added that, John Mahama’s track record in Ashanti and by extension, Ghana as a whole, stands tall and assured that he is committed with his resolve to bring all hands-on deck to first restore hope, salvage the economy to create opportunity for jobs for the youth.
