I’ll take duty off spare parts when you vote for me – Alan to Ghanaians

The Founder and Presidential Candidate for the Movement for Change, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten has reiterated his pledge to waive import duties on spare parts in the first two years of his leadership should he be voted as President in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Meeting with artisans at the Tamale Industrial area as part of his Northern Regional tour, the Movement for Change leader said the spare parts industry has collapsed due to high import duties.

As such, Mr Kyerematen believed that his policy would benefit consumers by making replacement parts more affordable.

“The work that you do depends on the availability of spare parts, but the cost of spare parts alone is keeping you out of business.

“And that is why I have made a commitment that if Alan becomes President by the grace of Allah, within the first two years, there will be no duties on spare parts,” he said on Tuesday.

The Movement for Change leader is in the Northern Region to kick start his regional tour with a series of meetings with various groups.

He said that even though the country is blessed with natural resources, little has been done to transform these resources into finished products

“Those of you who are into fabrication, you need metal sheets to fabricate the things that you produce. Ghana has bauxite, out of bauxite we can get aluminum. Ghana has iron, out of iron we can get steel, Ghana has oil and gas out of these we can get plastics.

“So if we can add value to bauxite, aluminum and iron, we can get all the raw materials you need for your work and this is what Alan is going to do for you,” he stated.

Mr. Kyeremanten said the two major political parties have failed the masses, therefore, there was a need for a change.

He added that it’s not true that an independent candidate can not win an election

“It will depend on you to make history and make Alan Kyerematen the first independent candidate to become president in Ghana,” he assured.

Take part in voter registration exercise and vote to change Ghana – Alan urges new voters

Leader and founder of the Movement for Change Alan Kyerematen has encouraged all Ghanaians who are qualified to register for a voter’s ID card to do so to enable them vote and let their voice be heard in the upcoming general election on 7 December.

The limited registration for first-time voters takes place Today, 7th – 27th May 2024.

Replacement of lost ID cards takes place on 30th May.

Alan Kyerematen in a Facebook post advised Ghanaians not to leave the future of t country to chance as every vote counts.

“You have the power to change Ghana now. A vote for Alan is a Vote for Change! Together we will win and Ghana will rise again”, he encouraged.

The ongoing limited voter registration exercise being organised by the Electoral Commission (EC) across the nation will be targeting first-time voters and individuals seeking to obtain a voter card.

Running from today to Monday, 27 May 2024, the exercise aims to register approximately 623,000 new voters, as disclosed by the Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa.

The EC chairperson emphasised the significance of this registration.

“The registration will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. And that gives us the figure of 623,000 that we have put there. That is not to say that we cannot go beyond that,” she stated.

She underscored the Commission’s commitment to facilitating a smooth registration process, drawing upon lessons from past projections.

In anticipation of potential challenges, particularly power outages, the EC chairperson reassured the public of her outfit’s preparedness.

We have made arrangements to ensure that we don’t have challenges because of dumsor,” she stressed, referencing the intermittent power supply in the country.

To mitigate disruptions, the EC has secured generators for all district offices, ready to activate in the event of power cuts. These generators will sustain continuous voter registration services, ensuring that no eligible citizen is disenfranchised due to technical constraints.

Elaborating on contingency measures, the chairperson of the EC said: “However, should there be the unexpected, we would switch on to the offline… voters will be registered and their details will be put on a pen drive that will be copied in our offices when the light returns, so the registration will not be disrupted.”

National Security must pick up all EC Commissioners over missing BVRs – Solomon Owusu

A spokesman for Alan Kyerematen’s Alliance for Revolutionary Change (ARC) Movement, Solomon Owusu has urged the National Security to pick up the commissioners of the Electoral Commission (EC) led by Jean Mensa  in connection with the alleged theft of five Biometric Verification Registration (BVR) devices.

The election management body, after series of denial, recently confirmed that some of its BVRs had been stolen from its stores, raising eyebrows in the country. As the main opposition NDC mounted pressure on the EC to find the equipment, the Commission reported that some staff had been interdicted in connection with the stolen BVRs.

Earler this week, the Director of Electoral Services at the EC, Dr Serebour Quaicoe, told new men that the Commission had handed over some 5 individuals suspected to be involved in the alleged theft of the BVR devices to the police.

But speaking on Pampaso programme on radio Gold, Owusu said Charlotte Osei was ousted for alleged procurement breaches hence Jean Mensa must be fired for the missing devices from the EC’s warehouse.

“I think the National Security must pick Jean Mensa and her other commissioners at the EC over the missing biometric verification devices,” Owusu said as he alleged that the equipment had been given to some elements in the NPP to mar the integrity of the upcoming limited registration exercise and possibly the December 7 elections.

“One of the things they [the commissioners] can do is to resign for superintending over the activities that led to the theft of the equipment else the integrity of the general elections will be at stake.” he added. “Former EC Boss, Afari Djan is alive and can be handed a contract to over see the upcoming elections.”

To him, if the EC Boss is not removed from office, the results of the eletions can be compromised and plunge the country into chaos.

“I have heard that the missing equipmentn are in Kumasi and being used to secretly register people in Manhyia South,” he alleged and dared the NPP to deny the claim.

Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has challenged the Electoral Commission (EC) to publish names of its staff who have been arrested in connection with the alleged theft of five Biometric Verification Registration (BVR) devices.

Speaking to JoyNews on April 13, Dr Quaicoe disclosed the police began investigating the matter about a month ago when the electoral body officially noticed the BVRs were missing.

“So they have been interdicted and they are now going through the security investigation. I am told that they will be arraigned before court soon. If they are found guilty, the law should deal with them,” he said while urging Ghanaians that there was no cause for alarm about the missing BVRs since they have not been activated.

But in a reaction to the development, Asiedu Nketiah, Chairman of the NDC cast doubt over the assertions of Dr Quaicoe and urged the EC to publish the names of the staff who had been handed over to the police.

Speaking on Inside Politics on TV XYZ, Asiedu Nketia also known as General Mosquito quizzed: “Who are those people who have been arrested? have they published anyone’s name? Don’t they have names? Why have they not been exposed?”

“The persons who have stolen the equipment can register people elesewhere into the ECs database. We have seen NPP affiliated persons taken peoples’ Ghana card outside Ghana elsewhere. Tell us those you have apprehended,” he said in Akan.
