Prof. Ayensu-Danquah has worked more than Akufo-Addo in Essikado-Ketan – B.O.T

Chartered Economist and a member of of the opposition NDC, Bernard Oduro Takyi (BOT) has slammed the Akufo-Addo administration for neglecting the Essikado-Ketan Constituency in the Sekondi-takoradi Metropolis.

Acording to the youth activist, the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has no legacy projects to show in the constituency despite their loyalty to the NPP for over 20 years.

B.O.T who was speaking to party faithfuls at the launch of the campaign for the NDC Parliamentary Candidate, Prof. Dr. Graec Ayensu-Danquah at Essikado on Saturday, September 29,2024.

Charging members of the party to unite and intensify campaign activities to propagate the policies of the NDC,  Oduro Takyi said he has seen the area lacks development, stressing that Prof, Dr. Ayensu-Danquah would do better than the current MP, Joe Ghartey, who has served four (4) terms and has enjoyed different ministerial positions.

“I have been to this constituency thrice to work and I know this area well, your MP has done nothing meaningful in Essikado,” he stated.”Let me tell you, make no mistake and vote NPP. Joe Ghartey is the worse MP in Ghana.”

“Prof. Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah is not a minister, she is not a DCE, she is not an Ambassador but she has used her own resources to transform this area, and her efforts and works are more than President Akufo-Addo,” he argued while touting the competencies of the surgeon-turned politician.

Assurances

Unveiling her to the people of Essikado by Kofi Totobi Quakye, former Minister for National Security, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Essikado-Ketan, Professor Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, assured electorates she will do her best to transform the area when voted into office.

She believes her Constituency which is in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis has not been represented well ever since Joe Ghartey became their legislator for over fifteen years.

She also promised to protect the votes of the electorates in the December 7 2024 general elections, adding that her quest to lead the people stems from the lack of developmental projects in the Constituency.

Unlike 2020 when she lost to the incumbent MP, Joe Ghartey, Prof. Dr. Ayensu-Danquah said she was well prepared this year to snatch the Essikado-Ketan seat to be able to implement her vision for the people.

“In the 2020 elections, you voted for me to represent you in Parliament and drive development and good governance to improve your lives. I heard your cries for change, but unfortunately, I wasn’t able to fulfill that mandate, ” she said.

” I thank you for believing in me and trusting me to bring about positive change. I’m committed to making a difference in our constituency when given the opportunity to lead,” she assured.

She noted that although she is not in office as their MP, she has helped buy taxis for some unemployed drivers and  helped enroll hundreds in skills trainin

“I have provided boreholes for most communities to get access to potable drinking water and assisted most you in many ways… the MP you voted has turned his back at you but I will represent you well when you votes for me come December 7,” she assured the crowd.

On her part, former Women Organiser of the NDC, Anita Desoso appealed to the people to give Prof. Dr Ayensu-Danquah the mandate because she’s committed and competent to lead and give them a voice in Parliament.

Deputy Minority Leaderamd MP for Ellembelle, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah who also spoke at the programme assured the people that he would support her to bring developmental projects to Essikado-Ketan.

“Even as she is not in office, she has done a lot for you. The people of Ellembelle have even benefitted from her so when you give her the mandate, she will deliver,” he stated.

Present at the event was former MCE for Suhum, Margaret Ansei (Magoo), Deputy NDC Secretary, Mustapha Gbande, Elikem Koto, among other leading members of the party in the Western Region.

Those against NDC’s 24-hr economy are enemies of the state- BOT

Certified chartered economist, Bernard Oduro Takyi has said the NDC’s 24-hour economy policy proposal is feasible and can help revive the economic mess created by the NPP government.

He said despite doubts by some members of the NPP, the policy will be implemented by the NDC government to create more sustainable jobs for the youth once Ghanaians vote John Mahama to power.

“The next NDC government intends to create an enabling ecosystem, special tax incentives and special metering system for businesses that opt to be on the programme,” Oduro Takyi stated on Kessben TV morning show.

“At the craft of the policy, the private sector will lead the initiative. it is government innovation but will be led mainly by the private sector.”

He also explained that, “the 24-hour economy comes with two benefits for businesses. One of the benefits is that the government will give businesses that will sign onto the 24-hour economy special metres that will consume less electricity than the normal metres and cut cost of doing business so many people can be employed. Also, businesses that will sign onto the 24-hour economy will receive tax discounts.”

Benard Oduro Takyi also known as (B.O.T) indicated that the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has already affirmed that the 24-hour economy policy and stated that its a game changer and further highlighted that the Global Info Analytics has also conducted a research on three occasions, and the outcome was that the 24-hour economy is in the minds of Ghanaian electorates.

“The policy proposal is in the minds of Ghanaians, according t the polls so the NPP fanatics must stop pretending they haven’t heard of it,” he said. “Whoever speaks against the 24-hour economy policy is either an enemy of employment or enemy of the state”

BOT stated that t the dream of every business person is to get a ready market and John Dramani Mahama has said that he will establish an Accelerated Development Export Council and be the chairman of the institution.

“The purpose of the Accelerated Development Export Council is that if the country produces more and the supply is high above the demand, he will make sure the excess is exported for the country to earn foreign exchange,” he said.

Urging Ghanaians to trust in the policy, BOT emphasised on unemployment rate that has escalated to 14.7% in the past year and thus, Ghanaians must trust the flag bearer of the NDC, former president John Mahama and vote him to power to execute the policies of the NDC that are geared toward creating more jobs.

Cocoa farmers must vote against NPP for collapsing the sector – BOT

Chartered Economist and a member of of the opposition NDC, Bernard Oduro Takyi (BOT) has urged Ghanaian farmers to vote against the NPP government in the 2024 elections for “collapsing the agriculture sector”.

The entrepreneur stated that previous budget statements of the government and statistics from the Ghana Statistical Service indicate that the Agric sector growth has declined ever since President Akufo-Addo took over power.

Quoting the 2017 and 2018 budget statements on the Gumbe Show program on TV XYZ, Oduro Takyi popularly known as BOT said the figures in the budget depicted that the Agric sector grew under the Mahama era but started to decline when the Akufo-Addo administration took over.

According to him, the cocoa sector took a nose dive under Akufo-Addo, explaining that the scrapping of free fertilizers for Cocoa farmers by the Akufo-Addo government has negatively affected the sector.

For instance, he said the cocoa road projects the Mahama administration introduced to rehabilitate feeder roads in the cocoa growing areas was halted by Akufo-Addo.

“This cocoa road projects was halted by the Akufo-Addo to tarnish the image of Dr Opuni, who was the then COCOBOD Boss.

“This government didn’t think about the farmers and they took huge amount of dollars to Kroll and Associates to audit the project but they couldn’t publish the report which stated that the project was a clean contract,” BOT told host Oheneba Boamah Bennie.

He further urged the cocoa farmers whose trade has been destroyed by the Akufo-Addo government to stage a protest against the NPP government and its flagbearer Dr Bawumia and kick them out.

“The cocoa sector has collapsed under President Akufo-Addo. Farmers should vote the NPP government out on December 7 as their way of expressing protest, ” he urged.

Again, BOT assured that the ” Cocoa Road projects will return under the next NDC/John Mahama government to make their roads motorable.”

Emission Levy can’t save Ghana’s economy – B.O.T

Chartered Economist and member of the opposition NDC, Bernard Oduro Takyi has chastised the Akufo-Addo government over the implementation of the new vehicle tax.

In a joint statement with Sulleyman Abdul-Wahab, the political analyst said the Emission Levy was likely to cause more hardship in the country.

To him, the levy which took effect on February 1,2024, is a nuisance tax that will affect businesses negatively.

Below is the statement;

The Vehicle Emissions Tax in Retrospect; Why NPP and Dr Bawumia should never be given the opportunity to come anywhere near the management of Ghana’s economy.

Government of Ghana under the Economic Management Team led by HE Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has imposed a Vehicle Emissions Tax (VET) on all motor vehicles to raise additional tax revenue to dig out the economy from the ditch.

All things considered, the government is expected to raise an amount of $40m annually.

If the $2b IMF/WB support is not enough to pull Dr Bawumia’s economy out of the ditch but a meagre $40m is what is needed, then the economy is truly in a more dire straits than anyone could ever contemplate.

The dynamics of Public Policies come with complexities in the area of options and trade offs.

This requires careful thinking to arrive at what the best possible options should be. You cannot just conceive of a policy such as this and proceed to implement it without thoroughly thinking through it.
In as much as Public Policies are supposed to enhance productivity, growth and development of businesses, this tax handle particularly will destroy thousands of businesses, loss of jobs with negative consequences on the struggling banking sector.

Governments use tax policies not only for revenue generation but also to direct consumption of goods, services and the general direction of the country.

As it appears now, Dr Bawumia and his team are completely tired in their heads and have no clue about the implications of their policy choices on the citizens, businesses and the entire economy.

There’s a subtle illusive objective to clean up the environment. That means, citizens are being punished for using vehicles that emit. That’s to say that, we must discard our current diesel/petrol vehicles for electric cars, otherwise we’ll be subjected to Dr Bawumia’s tax punishment.

Cars, for most people today, have become a necessity, and not a luxuries. So, the first question Dr Bawumia and his team must answer is, where are these electric cars being sold in Ghana to be bought by the ordinary man if he/she has the money?

How much are these electric cars being sold for? This question is relevant because, most Ghanaians don’t buy brand new cars off the shelves. We buy slightly used cars (pre-owned vehicles) because of price. The electric cars aren’t available in this option as of now. So, for now, every vehicle user must suffer the punitive tax (emissions tax) that’s why vehicle users are up in arms against this tax.

We are effectively being told to discard our current diesel and petrol vehicles. The question is, if the government is directing me to discard my emitting vehicle, who am I going to sell it to? Because everyone else is being encouraged to buy an electric car, I’ll have to discount my car to get a buyer to offload it to.
On a personal level, I’m losing value because of this policy.

AUTO DEALERS AND GARAGE OWNERS IN GHANA

Auto dealers who took bank facilities running into millions of dollars and imported diesel and petrol cars into their garages risk being stranded as they may have difficulty selling them because government says everyone must move to electric cars. As loans accrue interest against the backdrop of low sales, they will lay off workers.

BANKING SECTOR
From the aforementioned, significant quantities of unserviced loans could lead to impairments/bad debts with a potential to trigger banking crisis.

Why will anyone implement such a policy to raise a paltry $40m with great potential to cause this amount of harm to sections of the economy? You do not chew up your tongue because you crave khebab. It is only ignorance of public policy, tax revenue desperation or downright incompetence that may lead a government here.

FUEL STATIONS
With the push for electric cars to save the environment, we hope the government expects all current diesel and petrol filling stations will fold up, lay off workers and dismantle their expensive infrastructure against the heavy investment costs (Bank Loans) which some are yet to recover.
This is yet another effect on the banking sector. Perhaps the government sees an easy pathway to converting filling stations to electric car filling points.

ELECTRIC CAR FILLING POINTS
Let’s even, for a moment assume that the electric cars are available and cheap for Ghanaians to buy: let Dr Bawumia and his people tell us where the electric fuel infrastructure is in Ghana. Are such facilities sufficiently available in the country?
Again, do we have enough electricity generation capacity to meet the demands of electric cars without causing electricity supply shortfalls/disruptions (dumsor)?

ABOSSEY OKAI TRADERS & MECHANICS

Mechanics and spare part dealers of Abossey Okai, Suame Magazine etc, which have traditionally supported NPP stand to be hugely affected by this poorly thought through policy. Used cars parts traders in this category deal in petrol and diesel parts. If the economy begins to reject diesel and petrol cars in favor of Bawumia’s electric cars, it invariably means that sales of the parts imported by Abossey, Okai Suame Magazine etc guys will drop. Their investments could even disappear with massive job losses.

Will the proponents of this tax extend this same punishment to outboard motor vehicles being used by our hardworking Fisherfolks? It looks like that’s the direction of this government because they are also, vehicles that emit.

What about those massive GenSets that often come alive emitting fumes in factories, offices and homes each time our lights go off. What about the smoking chamber police vehicles on our streets. Will they pay?

This whole tax is one that is being arbitrarily and capriciously applied. No equity in application. Why should a fairly brand new efficient car pay as much emission tax as the 40 year old bus running Odorkor-Circle?
In most countries where emissions tax is in force, vehicles are tested for their emissions, and the fumes are measured and charged accordingly and proportionately. In some cases too, the vehicles are changed only when they move into certain pre-defined territories.
Our leaders should for once, pause and think.

Ghana is one big contradiction. On one hand, we are busily exploiting our natural resources, selling out oil blacks to investors, earning millions in oil revenue, setting up and commissioning oil refineries and on the other, developing policies to discourage the use of petroleum fuels.

Our leaders are a complete sellout that seems to be following the metropolitan slave masters sheepishly and implementing their recommendations without thinking about their implications.
In all known development theories, there is no country that has developed without first, industrialising. It is worth noting that industrialization comes with emissions.
But after they have achieved the end of industrialization, they have managed to convince our leaders that emission is not good. We should not go through that route.
Our leaders have swallowed it, hook-line-and-sinker.
Did they even ask themselves, how much of a pollution a country like Ghana emits?
Let’s wake up

Ghanaians yearning for Mahama’s return due to Akufo-Addo’s despotism – B.O.T

Chartered economist, Bernard Oduro Takyi says the collapse of the economy through reckless borrowing and dubious deals cut by the Akufo-Addo government has shifted the attention of Ghanaian electorates to the 2024 flagbearer of the NDC, John Mahama.

The youth activist who was speaking on the Gumbe Show on TV XYZ Thursday evening noted the Akufo-Addo government was led by “ponzy scheme managers” who have swindled Ghanaians after bragging that they could alleviate poverty and transform the economy upon the assumption of power.

The NDC member who is also known as ‘B.O.T’ told host Piesie Okrah that there has come a time that “nobody should compare the achievement of the NPP to the NDC” due to how the economy has collapsed under Akufo-Addo resulting in the reeling of all sectors of the government architecture.

He was reacting to the 2-day tour of the NDC flagbearer, John Mahama, to the Western North Region to interact with party executives and the chiefs of the area.

Yearn for Change

During the tour, the Omanhene (paramount Chief) of Bodi, Nana Kwasi Ofori Ababio decried the poor state of roads in his traditional area.

He described as unfortunate what he described as total neglect, particularly the suspension of cocoa roads which would have been completed by now to enhance the movement of goods and services to improve the lives of people, mostly farmers who feed the nation.

According to him the unfortunate development has forced commercial drivers to ply other routes resulting in the unfortunate death of many pregnant women, who have had difficulty commuting to major health facilities for care and treatment.

The development comes after the Akufo-Addo government halted all ‘cocoa road projects’ which were sanctioned under the erstwhile Mahama administration to rehabilitate roads leading to the rich cocoa-growing areas in Sefwi.

Earlier, the Sefwi Wiawso Manhene Okatakyie Kwasi Bumangama II  slammed government for giving them false hope during engagements before the creation of new regions.

According to him, the impression about massive development once Western North is hoved out of Western region is lacking.

“Akuffo Addo said he has given us region but the region is incomplete” – Okatakyie Kwasi Bumangama II lamented during his interaction with former President John Mahama who paid a courtesy call on him and his subjects on Day One of his two-day tour of the region.

Analysing the rousing welcome Mahama received in the area coupled with goodwill messages to him, B.O.T said the reactions from the chiefs indicated that they were fed up with the Akufo-Addo government that has been promising them for the past 7 years without any concrete developmental projects in these areas replete with rich natural resources the nation feeds on.

John Mahama, NDC 2024 flagbearer

“I have always said that the NPP kept lying to Ghanaians and now they have been caught up in their own lies,” he said in Akan while pointing that the NPP is a ruthless capitalist party that focuses on “property owning democracy.”

“I was in the NPP and had to cross to join the NDC at a point so I know what I am talking about. When I was with them, I kicked against that philosophy,” he said. “When the NPP is in power, they don’t care about the poor people; all they think about is what they can amass using the power the people gave them.”

He said the huge amounts of borrowing under the NPP went into consumption, thereby pushing Ghana’s economy to a junk status and the government had to run to the IMF for a bailout.

“The NPP government has shown that the NDC is far better than them because all their policies have failed and the result – the hardship being felt is just as the famine witnessed in 1983 where people could not find food to eat. Today, there is food but people cannot buy due the bad policies…It has never happened in this country, not even under Rawlings’ military regime, that people have to protest for the dividends of their own investments. And this is because Akufo-Addo had messed up the economy miserably,” he emphasized.

To him, the deception that has been exposed by the economic mess has shifted Ghanaians’ attention to Mr Mahama who has governed the country before.

“Most Ghanaians saw what John Mahama did in 4 years. The amount borrowed wasn’t much but they were pumped into prudent projects which are benefitting the country. talk of Accra Digital centre, the KIA terminal 3, good roads and the likes. So i feel the NDC and the NPP aren’t the same.

“Whoever says these two parties are the same is a disappointed NPP supporter. The NDC is a social democratic party and the NPP builds up wealth for its leaders alone instead of working for the people,” he averred.
