Bawumia can’t look clean irrespective of how NPP decorates him – NDC’s Doughan

A member of the communication team for the NDC, Chris Doughan has admonished Ghanaians to disregard Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, saying the NPP flag bearer has lost credibility.

Bawumia who is now the leader of the governing NPP has pledged to do things differently from his Boss Nana Akufo-Addo when voted to power in 2025.

Dr Bawumia is NPP’s flag baerer

In his first ever public address after he was elected to lead the NPP at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Bawumia touted his economics credentials but subtly absolved himself from the economic crisis of the country under President Nana Akufo-Addo.

Among other things, the new NPP leader announced that he will not appoint many ministers as his boss when he is voted to power, and went on to pledge that he will not superintend a corrupt government.

He acknowledged there was hardship in the country but indicated that it had nothing to do with him since his vision for the country, as the Head of the Economic Management Team, had been stifled since assuming office.

To play safe, Bawumia promised to abolish some taxes he believes are nuisance and affront to the growth of businesses such as the controversial E-Levy and the Emission Tax which have infuriated Ghanaians.

To him, he has what it takes to move the country from the economic crisis to building wealth for all.

But Chris Doughan who was reacting to Bawumia’s seeming new image stated that he was playing with the minds of Ghanaians and that, if Ghanaians voted for him, he would crash the country’s economy.

”Bawumia has been lying to Ghanaians for a long time and cannot be trusted anymore. He cannot lie to us again because we know him to be a pathetic liar who promises and never delivers,” the NDC man said in Akan.

He said most of the promises Bawumia made to Ghanaians about the economy and how he would turn the fortunes of the country still remain a dream despite the harsh economic conditions the citizens have had to grapple with under the Akufo-Addo government.

”Bawumia has been in charge of the economy since 2017 yet the people keep suffering because of his bad policies,” he said while indicating that the cost of living has skyrocketed and electricity prices keep swelling to the detriment of the already poor Ghanaians.

He went on to charge Ghanaians to rather reject Bawumia’s new promises and focus on the flag bearer of the NDC, former president John Mahama who was honest to Ghanaians in his first term and put taxpayers money to good use.

”John Mahama did a lot for Ghana with little resources unlike Bawumia and his Boss, Akufo-Addo. We the members of the NDC will jealously support John Mahama to win power and save this country from the ditch the NPP leadership has put us,” Doughan said on Inside Politics on TV XYZ.

See list of universities ‘built’ by NDC that Akufo-Addo has renamed

The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, (NDC) John Dramani Mahama, has promised to revert the names of public universities which were renamed by Presdient Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to their original names if the NDC comes into office in 2025.

Mr Mahama accused Nana Akufo-Addo and his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), of merely renaming universities constructed by the NDC, emphasizing that the NPP had not established any new universities while in office.

The former President, who was speaking during his ‘Building the Ghana We Want’ tour at Zuarungu, in the Upper East Region said what is even more funny about the current NPP government’s action is that they are failing to add up but renaming institutions built by the NDC after members of the NPP tradition.

“We will add other people and name the infrastructure in the Universities after them. But if the university is the University for Development Studies, that is its core mandate. It will be called the University for Development Studies,” – he explained.

He added – “And so, we will restore the original names, and the names that they have given them will be given to a significant infrastructure in the Universities.

Find below a list of some of the Universities affected.

1. University of Development Studies, Navrongo – UDS Navrongo
The University of Development Studies (UDS) was established by the Jerry John Rawlings-led – NDC government with several campuses across the northern parts of Ghana.
President Akufo-Addo changed of name the Navrongo campus of the UDS in the Upper East Region to CK Tedam University for Technical and Applied Sciences
He announced the name change at the burial ceremony of the late, CK Tedam, a New Patriotic Party founding member.
The change according to him is to honour the former Chairman of the Council of Elders of the NPP and to also make the campus an autonomous university.

2. University of Development Studies, Wa
Nana Akufo-Addo again changed the name of the UDS campus in Wa in the Upper West Region to Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies.
The university’s new name is after Simon Diedong Dombo, a Ghanaian politician, teacher and king who belonged to the United Party (UP) tradition, of which the New Patriotic Party has its roots.
Simon Dombo was a Member of Parliament during the First Republic of Ghana. The decision according to the government will transform the existing campus of the University of Development Studies (UDS) campus in Wa into a fully-fledged university.

3. Ho Technical University
The Ho Technical University (HTU), which was formerly known as Ho Polytechnic, was also renamed by Akufo-Addo as the Ephraim Amu Technical University.
President Akufo-Addo announced the name change during the grand durbar of the 50th-anniversary celebration of the university.

4. University of Energy and Natural Resources – UENR
The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Sunyani in the Bono Region was renamed after the late Prime Minister of the Second Republic, Professor Kofi Abrefa Busia, by Akufo-Addo
According to the president, Dr K.A Busia is an illustrious son of the region, hence the decision to honour him by naming the university after him.
UENR was established by an Act of the Parliament of Ghana, Act 830, 2011 on December 31, 2011 by the government of the late Prof John Evans Atta Mills

5. University of Education, Winneba, Kumasi Campus – UEW Kumasi
President Akufo-Addo also renamed the Kumasi campus of the University of Education, Winneba, which was established by the government of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, as the Akenten Appiah Menka University of Skills and Entrepreneurial Development.
He announced that the Kumasi campus of the University of Education will become an autonomous institution under the name, University of Skills and Entrepreneurial Development.
He noted that the decision is far advanced in making the school an autonomous institution.

6. University of Mines and Technology – UMAT
President Akufo-Addo officially renamed the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) to the George Grant University of Mines and Technology, after the first President of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC).
The Tarkwa-based tertiary institution was renamed on Friday, January 12, 2018, at a special congregation held at the school to install former President John Kufuor as its Chancellor.
UMaT which was formerly known as the KNUST School of Mines (KNUSTSM), was renamed after parliament passed the University of Mines and Technology into an Act of Parliament under the government of former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

You’ve taken so much taxes yet can’t pay public workers – Kwaku Boahen blasts Govt

A former Deputy National Communication Officer of the NDC, Kwaku Boahen has harshly criticised President Akufo-Addo over the labour unrest currently being witnessed in the country.

Speaking on Inside politics on TV XYZ, the vociferous politician said the government has been insensitive to the plights of workers and Ghanaians in general

“Today we can’t buy fuel, food, and yet we are being burdened with a lot of taxes. In all these, if the government cannot better the working conditions of service of public workers, then they have to go on strike,” he stated.

He urged the striking workers to continue to agitate for better working conditions until the government listens to them and do the right thing.

The Tertiary Education Workers Union of Ghana (TEWUG) are currently on strike over the payment of their Tier-two pension.

The strike started yesterday, February 1, 2024 over the government’s failure to address various concerns, including welfare needs, vehicle maintenance allowance, and overtime allowance.

The union has withdrawn various services, including cleaning the environment, setting up classrooms, providing security, and hospital services.

Kwaku Boahen believes TEWUG should have withdrawn their services long ago because the government deliberately decided to impose hardship on them.

Government can’t undertake any meaningful development before it’s kicked out – Mahama alerts

2024 Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama says Ghanaians must be on the look out for vote-buying promises and shoddy projects in the days ahead as government desperately explores how to outwit electorates again.

According to him, with the limited time left, the NPP can only promise phantom projects to mislead unsuspecting voters.

“What they (government ) have done in the last 8years is what their capacity could handle. There is nothing more they can do at this time. They have messed up the economy” he intimated.

John Mahama, accompanied by former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Dr Calistus Mahama, National executives of the party, MPs and other party officials reiterated the NDC’s commitment to be realistic with the populace and deliver on policy objectives to improves lives.

“People say politics is dirty so just tell the people what they want to hear and win power. But we in that NDC are not like that. We have been swallowed by debt. They promised you heaven but what one developmental project can you in point in this constituency since the NDC left office in 2016. The masses are suffering but just a few are enjoying. They think the elections can be bought. They gave 200 each to constituents in Assin North but it didn’t wash. If they bring the money take it nothing will happen to you” he stressed.

John Mahama was speaking at a town hall meeting at Frankadua in the Asuogyaman Constituency as part of his two day Building Ghana Tour of the Eastern Region.

Mahama will not disappoint Ghanaians – Alhaji Sinare

A former national vice chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Ghana, Ambassador Said Sinare has urged Ghanaians to have faith in the leader of the party, John Mahama, and voted for him in the December polls.

According to the former Ghana Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, unlike President Nana Akufo-Addo who has pushed many Ghanaians into poverty, the flagbearer of the NDC, former president John Mahama will perform better and improve the lives of Ghanaians.

In an interview with Kwame Minkah on Dwaboase on TV XYZ, Alhaji Sinare stated that although John Mahama who is running for president again has only a term to serve when elected, he believes the former president is well prepared to change the situation of the country.

“John will not fail the good people of this great country. When John comes back to power, he will double what he did when he came to power in 2012,” Alhaji Sinare assured.

Asked how a future NDC government will get the ailing economy back on track, the former MP said John Mahama and the party had outlined policies to tackle wastage, corruption and build back the economy.

“It is all about discipline and how you structure your economy,” he said while pointing at the “wastage” in the governance of the NPP and posited that the next NDC government is poised to transform the health sector and others.

He also mentioned that the Mahama administration would make access to healthcare easier by building more health facilities and equip them adequately to save lives.

For instance , he wondered why the dialysis centre in the country is one and in Accra and said the NDC government would make dialysis centres in government hospitals across the country.

Touching on the plans for Zongos, Alhaji Sinare emphasised that although the NDC delivered a lot of projects in Zongo communities, they are committed to continuing the projects when they win the elections in 2024.

He also pointed out that apart from the infrastructure the erstwhile Mahama administration provided for Zongos, the Islamic communities have been abandoned completely under a Vice president who is a Muslim.

“I m a Zongo boy. All the promises the government has made to the Zongo communities, they have failed to fulfil them. Apart from the astro turfs, what have they done?” Alhaji Sinare quizzed. “They have totally failed; they have not done anything for Zongos.”

He added, “We are going to improve their lives, we are going to make sure we put money in peoples’ pockets, we will tackle unemployment in the Zongo communities….And the health facilities for instance, their roads facilities, their schools. These are the basic things the Zongo needs. I know John Mahama will not disappoint.”

Holding 2024 Elections in Nov impossible- Omane Bomah

The overwhelming consensus at the IPAC meeting that the Electoral Commission’s major electoral reforms must be implemented in 2028, not in 2024 is understandable and well thought through.

In addition, we’re all ready to discuss voting on worship days for a workable solution to satisfy people of faith now.

1. The EC waited for seven (7) solid years to pass after 2016 without revisiting this issue only to resurrect the subject of voting in November, when Ghana has just ten (10) clear months to the December 07 presidential and parliamentary elections.

2. At IPAC yesterday, if the political parties had accepted the November proposal, that would have meant Ghana has ONLY eight (8) clear months to prepare for the elections.

3. Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission’s calendar of programmes and activities for the upcoming elections is not yet ready; hence, could not be released to political parties.

4. Why wait for January to be ending without stakeholders having the electoral calendar for the 2024 elections?

5. Why did the EC not introduce these discussions, adjustments, and amendments in 2017, 2018, 2019, or better still, why not after the 2020 elections? As in, introducing the subject matter in 2021, 2022, and 2023?

6. You don’t wait for an election year to introduce major Electoral Reforms: a year in which the EC has so much to do after an abysmal District Level (Assembly) Elections characterised by postponements after postponements, shortage of ballot papers, some Election officers complicity among others.

7. Recall the chaotic Limited Registration of voters in 2023…

8. Did you know that another voters’ registration exercise must take place this year? Yet, because the EC’s calendar of activities is not ready, we are left guessing 🤔

9. Also, recall the frequent breakdown of EC’s equipment and network (system) during the limited registration exercise in 2023, which necessitated shifting to offline registration in some cases. These developments cast some doubts about the procurement of services and equipment and must be investigated and fixed.

10. Besides, to vote for MPs in November, the EC needs amendment of the 1992 constitution, Article 112(4).

11. This amendment of a non-entrentched clause requires two-thirds of MPs to pass, meanwhile the MPs themselves must be in their constituencies for some parts of this year campaigning, and facilitating the registration of voters when the EC finally decides. Not to think of the duration of the process and other germane issues the EC must bring to the front burner.

Going forward:

12. The EC must immediately release the calendar of activities for 2024.

13. The EC must be focusing on urgent and important activities that will enhance the integrity of the December 07, 2024 elections.

14. The EC must be seen to be punishing erring EC officers who rig elections for contestants and the EC must also be punishing the EC officer in Nandom who openly declared his NPP affiliation during last weekend’s NPP primaries.

15. As was made abundantly clear at the IPAC meeting, we do not expect the EC to wait for another election year to reintroduce this major reform of voting in November. The process must end the latest by 2027 to allow political actors enough time in 2028 to concentrate on core concerns
in an election year.

God bless our homeland, Ghana 🇬🇭

I’ll tackle unemployment if elected in 2024 – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has said the next National Democratic Congress (NDC) government will roll out a comprehensive National Apprenticeship Program that will focus on providing jobs to young people and enhancing their skills.

He explained that the initiative will be implemented by the local Assemblies, where artisans will be supported to engage and employ young people.

The NDC flagbearer, who is on the “Building Ghana We Want Tour” in the Ashanti Region, addressed inhabitants of New Edubiase, outlining measures to tackle youth unemployment if elected in 2024.

“For individuals outside the school system, our emphasis is on skill enhancement, enabling them to explore opportunities in hairdressing, seamstressing, and other artisanal crafts. The next NDC government aims to establish a National Apprenticeship Program, with District Assemblies leading the implementation. They will oversee the registration of artisanal business owners and attach the young people with them. Local Assemblies will allocate funding to mentors who will guide these young individuals,” Mr. Mahama promised.

In his interaction with cocoa farmers in New Edubiase, Mr. Mahama said the next NDC will introduce initiatives to help the growth of the cocoa sector.

“The next NDC government will continue previous initiatives to improve the cocoa sector. Additionally, we will provide factories in cocoa-growing areas to ensure we add value to the cocoa beans instead of exporting them in their raw form. This will go a long way to help cocoa farmers, and the factories will also help provide jobs to the youth in these areas,” he stated.

God has chosen Mahama to redeem Ghana from crisis – Opambour

The founder and leader of the Miracle Worship Centre, Prophet Ebenezer Adarkwa Yiadom, has disclosed that God has chosen the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, to lead the country again.

Speaking when Mr Mahama had visited his church in Kumasi, the prophet who is popularly known as Opambour, explained that that was the second time God had revealed to him about Mahama’s victory this year.

“God has ordained him [Mahama] to return to leadership to save Ghana from its crisis and hardship. God has chosen him to come again to rescue us. I said this for the first time at Prophet One TV at Bantama. I am fearless so I am saying it. No spirit can stop Mr Mahama’s victory,” he asserted.

Opambour further urged the members of the NDC to work hard and explain the policies of the NDC to Ghanaians to ensure the party emerges  victorious.

“Don’t go and take any money and food from anyone. Focus on your work so that God will bless this prophecy,” he admonished.

Elections 2024

Ghana goes to polls on December 7, 2024 in a keen contest between former president John Mahama and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who is leading the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The polls comes at a time Ghana’s economy is being managed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) following the inability of the country to pay its external debts.

The economic crisis and the heightening corruption will be the biggest decider of the elections in which Bawumia, the head of Ghana’s economic management team is seeking to succeed his boss, President Akufo-Addo who is accused of superintending over rot and mismanagemnt for the past 7 years.

Akufo-Addo’s flagship programme, the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) which was implemented in 2017 was the policy that gave him a goodwill until parents started paying more for their wards upkeep in school.

Ghana’s debt swelled over the roof when Akufo-Addo had promised in opposition to rely on local resources to make the country an export-driven economy.

The country’s inflation quickened to 54.1% in the world’s second-largest cocoa producer in December 2022 and soared throughout 2023 before calming in November 2023.

Living expenses have heightened since post COVID era due to debt restructuring, and incessant fuel prices. Experts say the anger of Ghanaians will be sent to the polls following the disappointment witnessed under Akufo-Addo’s governance.

Mr Mahama has been campaigning on giving Ghanaians respite when he is elected.  Addressing a rally in Kumasi, Mahama said the NDC’s policies are well thought-through and will create more jobs as he implements a 24-hour economy.

24 hour economy is not well communicated; Ghanaians do not understand – Cwesi Oteng

Gospel musician Cwesi Oteng has cautioned the NDC, pointing out that their 24-hour economy policy is poorly communicated, resulting in a lack of understanding among Ghanaians.

“The 24-hour economy is a great idea, and to tell you the truth, Ghanaians are willing to understand what the 24-hour economy policy is,” he expressed during an interview on Xzone on TV XYZ with Afia Coke.

According to the gospel musician, the NDC needs to emphasize a flagship idea within the 24-hour economy concept and concentrate their message on that, advising them to refrain from excessive talking.

While acknowledging the positive aspect of the 24-hour economy policy, he admitted to hearing about it but not knowing the specifics. “Of course, they are talking, but I think that when it comes to politics, don’t say too many things. Pick a flagship idea from your many concepts and champion that idea rather than talking excessively. I only hear 24-hour economy; I don’t hear the specifics,” he added.

Cwesi Oteng advises that anyone who supports the NDC should grasp the essence of his statements and refrain from excessive talking.

Drawing a parallel between the 24-hour economy policy and Free SHS, the celebrated gospel musician disclosed that the NPP, in contrast to the NDC, didn’t engage in extensive discourse but instead focused on pushing the Free SHS agenda, which gained widespread attention.

“Any person who supports the NDC should grasp the essence of what I’m saying instead of talking excessively. The NPP wasn’t talking excessively; they picked Free SHS, and it was everywhere,” he concluded.

I will vote for the NDC only if their policies are better than the NPP – Cwesi Oteng

Celebrated gospel musician, Cwesi Oteng, firmly expressed that he would cast his vote for the NDC only if their policies surpass those presented by the NPP.

“If the NDC presents a policy that I find better than the policy that the NPP is presenting or a policy that the CPP or whoever is presenting, I will definitely vote for the NDC,” he asserted.

As the country enters an election year, Cwesi Oteng explained that he is actively listening and observing political parties to discern which one aligns best with his ideals and desires. He emphasized that his vote is open to any political party that presents the most favorable policies.

During a discussion about his political inclinations with Afia Owusu, widely known as Afia Coke, on Xzone on TV XYZ, Mr. Oteng disclosed that he remains nonpartisan, prioritizing Ghana above all. However, he stressed that no artist would vote for a political party that fails to address the issues affecting the nation.

“As I sit here, I don’t belong to any party, and I’m listening to everybody and watching what everybody is saying. I’m not partisan; Ghana first. We are not going to vote for people who are not coming to solve our problems,” he added.

Don’t misuse second tranche of IMF cash – Mahama tells Akufo-Addo

The flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) former President John Mahama has urged the Akufo-Addo government to be judicious in utilizing the recently approved second tranche of IMF bailout.

The Bank of Ghana acknowledged receipt of US$600 million as the second tranche of Ghana’s bailout package from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) yesterday.

Reacting to the development, Mr Mahama said the cash meant for budget support and stabilization of the local currency must be used to bring relief to the suffering Ghanaians.

Despite the release of the first tranche last year, Mahama contends that Ghanaians continue to endure difficulties.

“Under normal circumstances, the release of $600 million by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to the government of Ghana should provide relief to the already overburdened and suffering Ghanaian. It is, however, evident that Ghanaians will continue to suffer as long as the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia and NPP remain in office,” he wrote in a Facebook post.

Mr Mahama, who is on a tour in the Ashanti region, also highlighted the potential impact of the Value-Added Tax (VAT) on electricity consumption.

“Implementing VAT on electricity consumption will increase tariffs by almost 21% and exacerbate the hardship on Ghanaians. This will affect the prices of goods, services, and transport fares. I agree with organised labour that the government must reverse its decision to start collecting VAT on electricity consumption.”
