Okaikwei North MP donates desks and sanitary pads to 5 schools

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikwei North Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Theresa Awuni has supported five (5) schools in her constituency with  400 mono desks  and sanitary pads.

She handed the capacity desk to the heads of the beneficial schools at the municipal education office in Accra.

The donation on Wednesday November 6, 2024, follows a passionate appeal made by the Education Unit in the area for assistance.

The schools that benefitted from the desks were Sackey Odoi, Aggrey Basic, Anumely, Achimota Anglican JHS, Anglican primary and JHS  and Alogboshie 1 and 2 schools.

The MP at a short presentation ceremony promised to invest more in the educational sector.

“I am not making this donation because it is an election year. I have been supporting our education sector ever since I became the MP for this area,” Madam Awuni told XYZ News.

The Legislator urged the Municipal Director of Education, Madam Cynthia Aboni, to ensure that the desks are used for the intended purpose.

“I hope this goes a long way to help our young ones. When I win, we will continue to support our schools,” the MP assured.

Madam Awuni also donated dozens of boxes of sanitary pads to the Alogboshie A and B Basic Schools.

The headmistress of the school, Madam Joyce Simons who received the sanitary towels and distributed them to the female pupils was full of praise for the MP.

She recounted how some of the pupils miss instructional hours in school due to the inability of their parents to buy sanitary pads for them.

She pleaded with the Madam Awuni and other philanthropists to keep supporting the school from time to time.

NDC closely monitoring Police on arrest of pro-NPP hoodlums in Okaikwei North for attacking MP

The National Democratic Congress has served notice it is closely monitoring how the Police Administration is handling the recent arrest of about 20 thugs for attacking the office of the MP for Okaikwei, Theresa Lardi Awuni’s office injuring some people.

The arrest is said to have been made by the anti-robbery unit of the Ghana Police Service.at the registration centre after an SOS call.
Some of the items retrieved from these bandits included live ammunitions, cutlasses and other weapons.

The individuals, identified as pro-NPP hoodlums, who were had reportedly pitched camp at the voter registration center terrorizing people, targeted the NDC MP after they were confronted.

National Communication Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, who took to X (formerly Twitter), to raise concern about the incident, alleged some senior NPP officials were scheming to have the arrested party freed before cautioning that the NDC will keep a keen eye on the matter.

“The thugs were arrested while they were publicly smoking marijuana behind the district court near the voters’ registration centre,” the post added.
He described the arrested party as “armed bandits” adding that there were in possession of “live ammunitions, cutlasses and other weapons.”
Critics are questioning why the Police Administration, which has been quick in issuing press statements on such arrests is silent.

Earlier this morning, about twenty (20) armed bandits belonging to the ruling NPP were arrested at the registration centre in the Okaikoi North Constituency by the anti-robbery unit of the Ghana Police Service.

Some of the items retrieved from these bandits included live ammunitions, cutlasses and other weapons.

The thugs were arrested while they were publicly smoking marijuana behind the district court near the voters’ registration centre.

Yesterday, these same NPP bandits attacked the office of the sitting MP, Hon. Theresa Awuni and inflicted serious injuries on some innocent voter registrants.

Sources from the Police regional command have hinted us that some senior NPP officials are at the Police Station trying to secure bail for these hoodlums.

Some of the men arrested are on the police wanted list for offences ranging from robbery to murder.
Why has the Police Service not issued a statement on this incident like they did in the case of Hon. Collins Dauda?

Is somebody planning to coverup this serious issue?
Well, we are watching keenly to see how this issue will be handled.
