Voice out against inciting commentaries that threaten peace — Prof Opoku Agyemang tells chiefs

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Running Mate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has called on traditional leaders to openly condemn politicians whose utterances threaten the peace and security of the country

Addressing a mini durbar of chiefs and people during her three-day campaign tour of the Western region, Professor Opoku-Agyemang noted with concern the deliberate actions inciting comments by political appointees and their assigns which continue to fuel tension on the country

She encouraged them to be vocal against violence, intolerance, and divisive rhetoric which can undermine peace.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang stressed that peace is essential for development and growth, and that traditional leaders have a responsibility to help create an environment conducive to progress.

“It is essential for the Electoral Commission to establish the right structures to ensure free, fair, transparent, and credible elections,” she added.

She pointed out the importance of a level playing field in elections, emphasizing that .. “When you are confident that the right systems are in place, you are compelled to accept the outcome, regardless of who wins”.

She further cautiined .. “when there is an obvious imbalance, the results become contentious.”

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reiterated the NDC’s commitment to ensuring peaceful elections and urged traditional and opinion leaders to denounce any practices that threaten the electoral process.

The NDC Running Mate criticized the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), whose functionaries continue to send signals about their unwillingness to hand over power.

“Vote for the NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, who will reset the country and create jobs through initiatives like the 24-Hour Economy, the establishment of a Women’s Development Bank, and the rollout of a National Apprenticeship program,” she advised

Prof Naana Jane called on all registered voters to participate actively and peacefully in the upcoming elections.
