Isaac Adjei Mensah lauds Mahama-led government, highlights road reforms

The Member of Parliament for Wassa East, Isaac Adjei Mensah, has commended the Mahama-led government as a “listening government” and a true administration of the people.

Speaking on Dwaboase on Power 97.9 FM and TV XYZ with Piesie Okrah on Friday, December 12, 2025, Mr. Mensah, who also chairs the Road Maintenance Trust Fund, said the government’s overwhelming two-thirds majority in Parliament reflects its responsiveness to citizens’ needs.

“The overwhelming two-thirds majority in Parliament is a clear testament to the fact that the government listens to the people and acts in their interest,” he said.

The MP highlighted the Road Traffic Amendment Bill, which seeks to legalise and formally regulate the use of motorcycles for commercial purposes.

The bill also proposes reducing the minimum age requirement for commercial drivers and motorcycle operators from 25 to 21 years.

“This amendment is about creating opportunities for our youth while ensuring proper regulation and safety on our roads,” he stated.

Mr. Mensah also applauded the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, for his leadership in a sector he described as “highly complex.”

“I must commend Minister Nikpe for the excellent work he is doing, even though his sector is highly complex,” he said.

He further outlined the mandate of the Road Maintenance Trust Fund, which oversees the maintenance and reshaping of highways and feeder roads to enhance their lifespan.

The Fund is also responsible for collecting road tolls, set to be reintroduced, and managing the fuel levy.

Mr. Mensah said these efforts demonstrate the government’s commitment to upgrading the country’s transport infrastructure and prioritising the safety and welfare of citizens.

“These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to improving our transport infrastructure while ensuring the welfare and safety of our citizens,” he concluded.
