The Supervising Engineer for the Oti Region has assured that work on the road project is progressing steadily, with construction currently at about three percent completion.
According to the engineer, sections of the deteriorated road are being reconstructed to full engineering specifications, including the replacement of the base before the application of the binder and final asphalt wearing course. He said scarification works have begun and will continue along the project corridor to Kete Krachi, while the contractor is expected to have an asphalt plant operational by September to accelerate paving works.
Responding to the briefing, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, acknowledged that the quality of work on site was satisfactory but stressed that the pace of construction must improve.
Mr. Agbodza directed the contractor to continue concrete works and drainage construction while awaiting the installation of the asphalt plant, rather than allowing progress to slow.
He explained that the road has exceeded its design life, having served as a surface-dressed road for more than a decade without major maintenance. He said, under President John Dramani Mahama’s directive, the entire corridor is being rehabilitated into a full asphalt road rather than receiving routine repairs.

While commending the contractor for effective dust control and the quality of ongoing works, the Minister insisted that there is no time to lose and urged the contractor to accelerate work to meet the project schedule.
