The Member of Parliament for Ho, James Gunu, has commended the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, for the government’s renewed push to improve road infrastructure across the Volta Region, describing the ongoing projects as a visible sign of government’s commitment to development.
Speaking during an inspection of road projects with the Roads Minister, Mr. Gunu described the Ho Bypass as a strategic project that will ease traffic congestion within the municipality while supporting Ho’s anticipated elevation to metropolitan status.
According to him, the bypass is particularly significant because it serves the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) and will improve accessibility to one of Ghana’s premier health training institutions.
However, the MP appealed to the Ministry and project consultants to review portions of the road design to address concerns raised by residents living along the bypass.
He noted that several residents have complained about having to travel long distances before accessing U-turns or turning into their homes, urging engineers to explore possible adjustments that would improve access without compromising the integrity of the project.
Mr. Gunu also assured contractors of his support in resolving challenges relating to the acquisition of suitable construction materials, promising to work with traditional authorities and landowners to facilitate access to quality borrow pits so construction schedules are not delayed.
The Ho MP praised contractor Timeline & Innovations Company Ltd. for the pace and quality of work on its section of the project, saying the contractor’s performance has attracted positive feedback from constituents.
“To the ordinary Ghanaian, the performance of contractors reflects the performance of government. Once they started praising us, it meant the contractor was performing very well.”
He expressed optimism that if contractors across the country matched the speed, quality and professionalism being demonstrated on the project, Ghana’s road infrastructure would witness significant transformation.
Mr. Gunu further commended the Ministry’s enhanced supervision and competitive approach to project delivery, noting that it has become easier to distinguish performing contractors from those falling behind schedule.
He expressed confidence that the contractor would honour its commitment to complete the project by December, allowing residents to begin enjoying the full benefits of the road.
